Angel Reese spurs huge comeback vs. Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever: 'I'm a dog, you can't teach that'

The Chicago Sky recorded an impressive come-from-behind win over the Indiana Fever on Sunday afternoon, in a game that has become a growing rivalry thanks to the presence of stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

But it was Reese that got the better of Clark on Sunday, though both had performances to remember.

Reese scored 10 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter as the Sky overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to win 88-87 in a key momentum-gaining victory.

After the game, the emotion poured out of Angel Reese.

“I’m a dog, you can’t teach that,” she told ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “I’m going to go out and do whatever it takes to win every single night. My teammates rely on my energy. So being able to continue that energy even if we’re down, even if we’re up, that’s what I do.”

Angel Reese was one part of a three-pronged attack for the Sky, who worked it inside with Reese and big Kamilla Cardoso, then kicked it outside occasionally to Chennedy Carter.

Carter scored 23 points in the game but was frustrated at one point in the second half.

That’s when Reese came over and put her arm around the more veteran player, calming her down and helping her get back into the flow of the game.

“Hey, me and Chennedy, we have a different kind of relationship,” Angel Reese explained. “We’ve been through a lot of the same things. A lot of people have misconceptions about us. We understand each other, and that’s why I love her. She can give to me, I can give to her. She a dog too. She came out and did so much for us tonight. This is a team effort and I’m just so happy for this team.”

Angel Reese became the first player in the WNBA to record 25-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in the same game since star A’ja Wilson did it back in 2018.

She also extended a WNBA rookie record streak of double-doubles, notching her eighth straight, two better than the previous record.

Bottom line: Reese is rounding into form in a major way, and Sunday’s huge win over Indiana was massive for the Chicago franchise. Even then, Reese knows she can do more.

“I try to give myself some grace,” Angel Reese said. “I’m really hard on myself. I mean I’m happy we won. I’m so happy we won. That matters most to anything. But I’ve got to get back to work and we’ve got to get back to work for our next game.”
