Angel Reese has been suspended for the first half of the Chicago Sky’s game against the Las Vegas Aces this weekend, the franchise announced. The organization cited Reese’s recent comments, which it deemed “statements detrimental to the team.”

Reese is already serving a suspension during Friday’s game against the Indiana Fever after picking up her eighth technical foul earlier this week against the Connecticut Sun. According to WNBA rules, that meant an automatic one-game ban unless the foul was rescinded. The WNBA announced Reese’s suspension Thursday.

Now, Reese is set to miss the first half on Sunday against the Aces. The decision comes after comments made during an interview with the Chicago Tribune when the former LSU star raised questions about the direction of the Sky organization and appeared to call out multiple teammates, including Hailey Van Lith.

“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the Sky said in a statement. “We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.

“Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

Reese addressed her comments during Wednesday’s postgame press conference following Chicago’s resounding victory over the Sun. She said her comments seemed like they were taken out of context and added she apologized to her teammates for the remarks.

“I don’t think I’m frustrated – I probably am frustrated with myself right now,” Reese said. “I think the language is taken out of context and I really didn’t intentionally mean to put down my teammates because they’ve been through this with me throughout the whole year. They’ve busted their ass just how I’ve busted my ass. They’ve shown up for me through thick and thin and in the locker room when nobody could see anything.

“I want to apologize to my teammates, which I already have. I thought the article and how it was misconstrued about what was said, I just have to be better with my language because I know it’s not the message, it’s the messenger and understanding what I say can be taken any kind of way. So I just have to really be better and grow from this.”
