Brittney Griner denies calling Caitlin Clark 'f***ing white girl' in viral lip-reading moment

Following a viral video on the bench, Brittney Griner addressed her alleged comments referencing Caitlin Clark. Griner was caught on camera, apparently saying “(expletive) white girl,” in reference to Clark.
Griner was certainly aggravated at a foul call during the Atlanta Dream’s loss to the Indiana Fever last month. Some speculated the comments, whatever they were, were directed at Clark or the official.
However, Griner denied saying something like that, claiming she wouldn’t use language like that. It was simply that Griner was mad about a foul call, not Clark.
“Would never say that,” she told Outkick’s Dan Zaksheske. “Like, there’s no place for that in our league … “I know it wasn’t that because I wouldn’t use that type of language.”
Griner also went viral in May for having additional words with officials during a CBS interview mid-game. She yelled “be (expletive) better.”
This is the first season that Griner is signed with the Dream after played the first 11 seasons of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury. She is a nine-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and won a WNBA Championship in the 2014 season. But safe to say, Griner’s been talked about more about her off-the-court words than her on the court play.

Clark hasn’t been asked about Griner’s alleged comments to this point, but she had her own bit of fun with people off-the-court Saturday. In her return from injury for Indiana, Clark poked fun at a reporter.

The reporter’s phone started to ring as the press conference began following the 102-88 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark joked she has trouble multitasking and wouldn’t be able to hear unless the phone was turned off.
“You can’t ask a question on your phone and your phone ring,” Clark joked. “You can ask the question after you turn it off. There you go. I’m not a good multitasker. I can’t hear.”
Clark had every reason to feel good about Saturday’s performance, which marked her first appearance in three weeks. She had one of her best games of the year, dropping 32 points while adding eight rebounds and nine assists to flirt with a triple-double and hand the Liberty their first loss of the season.
Clark scored 25 of her points in the first half, including a 6-of-8 showing from 3-point range. As a group, the Fever hit 17 3-pointers in Saturday’s game, which was two shy of the WNBA regular-season record.
