Brittney Griner had more than a few words for officials Saturday during halftime of a game against the Dallas Wings. Griner had just started an interview with CBS when referees walked behind her and she walked away to confront them.

The 6-foot-9 Atlanta Dream forward seemed to be upset about a foul that was called earlier, asking the officials about holding. At the end, she had some PG-13 language for them as well.

Griner was called for two fouls and had 10 points in the first half as the Dream held a 37-30 lead. She had also fouled out of each of her previous two games.

This is the first season that Griner is signed with the Dream after played the first 11 seasons of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury. She is a nine-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year and won a WNBA Championship in the 2014 season.

The Dream would go on to defeat the Wings by a score of 83-75 to improve their record to 2-2 on the young season. Griner finished the game with 15 points and eight rebounds.

She also wasn’t called for a foul the remainder of the game, so perhaps her message to officials got through. Atlanta next moves on to face the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon.

Brittney Griner has her jersey retired at Baylor

Prior to her pro career, Griner was a star player for Baylor from 2009-13. She is a two-time AP Player of the Year and led the Bears to a national championship in the 2012 season.

Griner ended her time in Waco with career averages of 22.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.1 blocks per game. She is still the women’s all-time leader in career blocks with 748. Last year, Griner had her jersey retired by Baylor and spoke on the emotions of the moment.

“Just full of emotions,” she said. “As soon as it started to go up, that’s when I started to break. It just all came together at the right time. There’s always a plan and you’ve just gotta trust in that plan.”

Griner was a part of three Big 12 Championships in addition to the one national title during her time in Waco. After giving so much to the program and women’s college basketball as a whole, Griner opened up on what it means to her to be honored a decade later.

“It means everything,” she said. “I feel seen. You give so much to the organization and to the school. Then for them to honor you and appreciate you, you feel seen. Then the ladies, I think I got them pumped up and ready to go.”
