Caitlin Clark injury update: Indiana Fever announce when star guard will make her return

The Indiana Fever (4-5) announced Friday that guard Caitlin Clark will return to the lineup in Saturday’s home contest against the New York Liberty (9-0). Clark has been sidelined for the last five games with a left quad strain.
Indiana went 2-3 without Clark in the lineup. Her last action came on May 24 against the undefeated Liberty, a 90-88 defeat. Clark put up 18 points, 10 assists and five rebounds. The Fever went 1-3 against the Liberty last season. With Clark healthy, they hope to take down the reigning WNBA champions in their second meeting this season. The Liberty are hoping to become the fourth team in WNBA history to open a season with at least 10 consecutive wins.
“It’s been good,” head coach Stephanie White told Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star on Friday. “She [Clark] is working her way back and I felt like today was better than yesterday in terms of movement and balance and feeling like she’s getting back into rhythm, timing, all of those things. As long as we don’t have any regressions, she should be ready to go.”

Fellow guard Sophie Cunningham has been out since May 30 with an ankle injury. Cunningham practiced Thursday in hopes of being ready to return to game action Sunday. Both Clark and Cunningham should provide a boost to the Fever.

“I mean, I think the biggest thing is just understanding that we have the opportunity to grow through some circumstances that might not be ideal,” White said Thursday. “You know, the ball’s getting in other people’s hands outside of Caitlin, on the floor, and how are we able to get one another in position to be successful? You know, players are getting minutes that might have been limited with both Caitlin and Sophie out.”
Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, was off to a hot start to her second season. The former Iowa star has posted averages of 19.0 points, 9.3 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game.
