The long-awaited return of Caitlin Clark to the basketball court is set to happen Wednesday evening. The Indiana Fever star has missed the past five games due to a groin injury, but told reporters on Tuesday that she plans to play against the Golden State Valkyries.

She was able to practice with the team the past couple of days and, barring any setbacks, feels healthy enough to return to game action. Clark spoke on how she felt after practice as well as what her mindset and excitement to be back.

“I think it’s just nice to get back out there and get into the flow of playing with my teammates again,” she said. “It’s gonna be fun to get back out there hopefully and just feel things again. I don’t know what type of minutes I’m gonna get or what it will look like. But just when I’m out there, compete, play hard. This is gonna be a team that’s gonna be moving constantly. So just being aware and active and bring energy. It’s obviously hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks, so I’m definitely excited to get back out there.”

Clark has missed 10 of the Fever’s games this season as she also sat out five contests earlier in the year due to a quad injury. Indiana is 5-5 without her, including defeating the Minnesota Lynx to win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The guard is averaging 18.2 points, 8.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds so far this season but also leads the league with 5.9 turnovers per game. The last time she came back from injury this year, Caitlin Clark scored 25 points in the first half alone against the New York Liberty. She ended that game with 32 points, eight rebounds and nine assists as the Fever won.

Clark played 31 minutes in that contest, and she also expects to play a good chunk of time Wednesday. It is a different injury, however, and the possibility of a minutes restriction was also discussed.

“I hope to play a decent amount,” Clark said. “Maybe upper 20s. Depends how I feel and how the game goes and what the team needs as well. I feel pretty good, but gonna try not to overdo it as well and put myself in a good position moving forward.”

Tip-off for the game between the Fever and Valkyries is set for 12 p.m. ET on Wednesday in Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The matchup will be televised on NBA TV.
