Caitlin Clark injury update: Indiana Fever star reveals her WNBA All-Star game status

Caitlin Clark will not compete in the WNBA All-Star game and the 3-Point contest after suffering a groin injury this week. The Indiana Fever shared the news on Thursday, and Clark sent a message to the fans.

“I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can’t participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game,” Clark said. “I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I’m looking forward to helping Sandy [Brondello] coach our team to a win.”

Caitlin Clark suffered the groin injury during the final minute of the Fever’s 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun. After the injury, Clark banged her head against the stanchion and got emotional as she went to the bench.

Before this season, Clark never missed a game in her college or WNBA career but has already missed multiple games due to multiple injuries. So far this year, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and five rebounds per contest.

“It’s honestly been hard, I’m not gonna lie to you,” Clark told reporters earlier this month. “It’s difficult going to prepare for games, but knowing you’re not going to be playing in them. It’s challenged me mentally. It’s really hard to stop and go, stop and go, stop and go, especially when you’re not feeling your best. Just trying to get my body as healthy as I can be and remain confident in myself.”

Not having Clark playing in the All-Star game is a big blow since the game is being played in Indianapolis. She was named captain of Team Clark, which includes her Fever teammate Aliyah Boston, A’ja Wilson, and Sabrina Ionescu. Team Clark is taking on Team Collier, led by captain Napheesa Collier. The team also includes Allisha Gray, Kelsey Plum, Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese.

Clark was selected by the Fever at No. 1 overall in last year’s draft. In her rookie season, Clark was named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team, the All-WNBA First Team and won the Rookie of the Year award.
