Caitlin Clark injury update: Major news emerges on Indiana Fever star, status for 2025 playoffs

Caitlin Clark will not return to the court this season. The Indiana Fever star announced she’s been shut down for the year on social media Thursday.
“I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season,” Clark wrote. “I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.
“The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective. I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs.”
Clark has still not played since July 15 as she recovers from a right groin injury. She missed her 19th in a row when the Fever took on the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday. Of course, it’s been a difficult adjustment sitting on the bench for Clark, who never missed a game during her college career of her rookie WNBA season in 2024. She was averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 steals this year prior to her injury.
Earlier this week, Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White revealed that she was hopeful Clark would be able to return by the end of the regular season. However, it doesn’t appear that the Fever star was able to progress enough to be cleared.

“She’s working as hard as she can to make sure that she is coming back or is capable of coming back,” White said. “I think the long term viewpoint of her health and wellness is the most important thing.”
Indiana has three games left during its regular season schedule beginning on Friday night at home against the Chicago Sky. They’ll play the Washington Mystics on the road on Sunday before hosting the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.
The Fever currently sit in eighth place in the current WNBA standings, 0.5 games back from the Seattle Storm in seventh. The eight teams with the best record advance through to the WNBA playoffs, so Indiana is toeing the line of falling out of postseason contention.
