Caitlin Clark, Napheesa Collier named captains of 2025 WNBA All-Star Game

The WNBA is less than three weeks out from their All-Star Game, the 21st in the league’s history, in Indianapolis. With that, they’ve begun to announce those who will participate in the event this year, starting with their captains this afternoon.
The WNBA revealed this afternoon that Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx will be the captains this year of the WNBA All-Star Game. It is each of their first respective honors to be captains with this being the second nod in as many seasons for Clark while it’s the fifth for Collier at All-Star Weekend.
This comes with Clark and Collier leading the way in the fan voting to decide who would be this season’s captains. Clark led the way with 1,293,526 votes while Collier was second with 1,176,020.
Clark, in her second professional season, is averaging 18.2 points (39% FG, 29.5% 3PT on 2.6 makes), 8.9 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Those numbers, specifically her scoring and shooting percentages, are down from last season when she was an All-Star as well as All-WNBA First Team and Rookie of the Year. She has also missed seven games dealing with injuries to her left leg, having the Fever at 8-8 and trying to remain in contention for back-to-back berths in the WNBA Playoffs. Still, there’s no questioning Clark’s popularity in the sport with a fan vote only further reflecting that.

Collier is then in her seventh year as a pro, posting 24.5 points (51.7% FG, 40.9% 3PT on 1.5 makes), 8.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. That has her arguably having the best season of her career for a player who is already a three-time selection both as All-WNBA, currently on consecutive selections to First Team, and All-Defensive. That has helped the Lynx to be 13-2, which is currently the best record in the league to this point of the summer, coming off their runner-up appearance last year in the WNBA Finals.
As for the remainder of the teams, the WNBA will announce the other eight starters tomorrow night at 7 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CT on ESPN. The ten starters in total were selected by a vote that accounted for fans, players, and the media. Coaches will then later decide who the dozen other reserves will be on the teams with those names revealed on July 6th. Then, on WNBA Countdown on July 8th, Clark and Collier will, as captains, draft their respective teams who will play one another at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, aired on ABC, Disney+, and ESPN+ at 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT, on July 19th.
Clark and Collier are two of the very best in the WNBA. They’ll now be tasked with making teams of the remaining honorees that will try to win the WNBA All-Star Game next month in Indy.
