Kelsey Plum on WNBA refs: 'To shoot six free throws is f***ing absurd'

Kelsey Plum is fed up with the officiating and the refs in the WNBA. The Los Angeles Sparks star had plenty to say on the matter after a 89-81 overtime loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Monday evening.
Plum did not hold back on her thoughts after shooting only six free throws in the contest, saying postgame that she felt she was fouled on several occasions that were not called. Plum finished with 24 points on 7-of-20 shooting from the field and made all six of her free throw attempts.
“I’m gonna get fined for saying this, but I drive more than anyone in the leagu. So to shoot six free throws is f***ing absurd,” she said. “I got scratches on my face, scratches on my body, and these guards on the other team get these ticky-tack fouls and I’m sick of it. I get fouled like that every possession. Rickea (Jackson) gets fouled like that in the post all the time. They don’t call it and I don’t know what else to do. It’s reall frustrating, though. There’s multiple shots into the game, either into the third or into the fourth, where they’re just coming and f***ing swinging and they just don’t call anything.
“I don’t understand how that’s six free throws. I played 40 minutes touching the paint almost every play. It is absurd. So that’s what I’m saying. I’m gonna get fined for that and that’s fine. And I needed to make more shots. But they are fouling the sh*t out of me every single play. So I’m very frustrated with that and I’m sick of it. I don’t know what I need to do. I talk to the refs nice. I pray before the game. But f*ck, I’m over it.”

Plum is in her first season with the Sparks after being traded from the Las Vegas Aces this offseason. She was a part of two WNBA Championships with the Aces while averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game for her careers.
Plum played college basketball for Washington and was previously the all-time leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball history with 3,527 points before Caitlin Clark passed her. She has been an equally impactful player in the WNBA and her titles prove that.
The Sparks, however, dropped to 3-7 this season with the losss to Golden State. They will aim to get back on track with a game coming up on Wednesday against the Aces, Kelsey Plum’s former team, and she’ll hope for better calls from the refs then.
