Angel Reese is dealing with a ton of pushback due to some comments she made about the Chicago Sky amid another rough season. She called out the organization during an interview with the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe, saying she wants to see more from the team in free agency while also calling out some of her teammates.

“I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”

Well, Sophie Cunningham isn’t having any of it. The Indiana Fever star might be out for the remainder of the season due to injury, but she addressed Reese’s comments during the latest episode of her podcast, explaining why they’re unacceptable for a star player.

“There’s just some things that you can’t say,” Cunningham said via her Show Me Something podcast, per TMZ Sports. “I’m a very team-first person. I always put the team before my feelings, and I think that should be a standard.

“So, you gotta protect your locker room. You can’t be saying everything you’re feeling because that’s not a good look.”

It certainly was a bad look for Reese, and the team responded accordingly. She was suspended for the first half of the Chicago Sky’s game against the Las Vegas Aces this past weekend, with the organization cited Reese’s recent comments, which it deemed “statements detrimental to the team.”

“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the Sky said in a statement. “We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.

“Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

Reese addressed her comments during last Wednesday’s postgame press conference following Chicago’s resounding victory over the Sun, saying her comments seemed like they were taken out of context and added she apologized to her teammates for the remarks.

Regardless, Cunningham makes a salient point. Reese likely won’t be taking any more shots at her teammates in the future after hopefully learning her lesson this time around.
