Columbus High School, located in Columbus, Wisconsin, has built one of the strongest athletic traditions among mid-sized schools in the state. Known as the Cardinals, Columbus competes in the Capitol Conference and is a member of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA). The school has achieved success across multiple sports, highlighted by state championships in football (1990, 1996, and 2022), girls basketball (2002 and 2003), girls track and field (2004), boys soccer (2008), and softball (1984). In recent years, Columbus has remained highly competitive in football and basketball, regularly contending for conference and postseason honors. Strong community support, consistent athletic success, and a tradition of developing multi-sport athletes have helped establish the Cardinals as one of south-central Wisconsin's most respected high school athletic programs.
