10 freshmen quarterbacks who are lighting up Friday nights

Freshman high school football quarterbacks around the country are stepping behind center on varsity and proving they can easily hold their own with the best teams in the country. We spotlight 10 of the best 2029 signal callers below:
Thaddeus Breaux – Hamilton (Calif.)
There aren’t many freshman quarterbacks in the nation look like they’re a senior, but Hamilton’s starter behind center is one of them.
Standing at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Breaux definitely passes the eye test. And his play on the field matches what you might expect for someone of his stature. So far this season, Breaux has completed 44 of 69 (63 percent) passes for 446 yards and two touchdowns.
The freshman led the Yankees to their first win of the high school football season this past week, a 23-6 victory over Crenshaw.
CJ Cypher – Carrollton (Ga.)
Cypher had no easy job in trying to step into the vacated shoes of Julian Lewis, who is now over at Colorado playing for Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes. The freshman has done so and led the Trojans to a 4-0 mark near the midway point of the high school football season.
Through four starts for Carrollton, Cypher has completed 40 of 55 passes for 720 yards and eight touchdowns. The most important stat is Cypher has yet to throw an interception.
The freshman phenom already has offers from App State, Arkansas, Auburn, Delaware State, East Carolina, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Florida State, Jacksonville State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh and Sacramento State.
Colton Dabkowski – Woodgrove (Va.)
In just two games for the Wolverines, Dabkowski has completed 36 of 52 passes for 535 yards and five touchdowns. the freshman quarterback has also been very effective running the ball as well, rushing for 188 yards and two scores.
Dabkowski already has an offer from UAB.
Nolan Downes – IMG Academy (Fla.)
You probably recognize the last name because his brother, Ryan, played at Sarasota Booker in 2024 and is now at Cornell.
Downes has shined on IMG Academy’s junior national team this fall, playing up against Neumann and Key West this high school football season. The freshman this fall has completed 29 of 50 passes for 475 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Keep a close eye on Downes as its in the family genes to play the position and eventually be doing so on the college level.
Xavier Gammon – Kenton (Ohio)
Handed the keys to the Kenton offense heading into the Wildcats’ Week 3 matchup against Ottawa Glandorf, the freshman quarterback delivered the goods.
Gammon showed his abilities as a dual-threat quarterback, totaling 600 yards of offense, completing 35 of 44 passes for 507 and adding 93 on the ground. The 6-foot, 180-pound signal caller led Kenton to their first of what could be many high school football wins with Gammon behind center.
Trey Hasan – Milton (Ga.)
Playing for a team that’s coming off winning a state championship and had Luke Nickel, who is now at the University of Miami, is a pretty tall task to live up to.
With incumbent Derek Baker dealing with injuries in the early parts of the season, Hasan has been thrusted into action and has played admirably for the Eagles. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Hasan has thrown for 195 yards and two scores, playing against teams like nationally ranked Buford and The First Academy (Fla.).
Malik Leonard – Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla.)
The southpaw freshman quarterbacks one of the best high school football teams in the Sunshine State and is coming off leading Chaminade-Madonna to a 28-25 win over American Heritage (Fla.).

Having already played nationally ranked St. Frances Academy, Leonard through three games has completed 12 of 20 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, with one of them being the go-ahead in last week’s win over the Patriots.
Zack Parker – Cherokee (Ga.)
Though the Warriors are 1-3 on the season, the program has a lot to look forward to having Parker behind center the next few seasons for them.
Parker, who already has collegiate offers from Memphis and UAB, has been the most impressive freshman signal caller in the Peach State so far. Through four games this season, Parker has completed 37 of 66 passes for 516 yards and five touchdowns.
We don’t think it’ll be long before Parker begins raking in the offers from all around the country as the Class of 2029 passer is on pace to surpass 1,000 yards in his first high school football varsity season.
Brian Snowden Jr. – Archbishop Spalding (Md.)
Being the follow up act for Malik Washington, who is now at the University of Maryland, is no easy task for any quarterback, especially for a freshman.
Snowden Jr. has hopped onto the saddle, playing up against some of the best high school football teams in the region, already having faced programs like Brownsburg (Ind.), Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) and The Hun School (N.J.). In the Cavaliers’ 58-28 rout of Archbishop Hoban, Snowden Jr. was superb, accounting for seven touchdowns in the victory.
Expect the freshman to blossom into one of Maryland’s best signal callers when it’s all said and done.
Jordan Wiggins – Northeast (Ga.)
Another freshman quarterback out of the Peach State that’s putting up some impressive numbers and records is Wiggins from Northeast.
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound passer, who also plays baseball as an outfielder, set a Bibb County record for touchdowns thrown in a game with six in just his fourth high school football start for the 3-1 Raiders. Wiggins’ numbers can’t be ignored thus far, as the quarterback has completed 47 of 72 passes for 738 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one mere interception.
