Connecticut High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 26

The Connecticut high school football season is mixed with the public school play of the CIAC and private schools primarily competes out of the Founders League, with plenty of results already giving folks a clearer picture of the 2025 campaign as it reaches the midway point.

Taking the No. 1 spot in this week’s Top 25 rankings out of the Constitution State is  St. Thomas More after a 14-12 loss to Virginia’s No. 1 ranked The St. James Academy. Following them up is  New Canaan and Avon Old Farms at 2-3, respectively. Which other teams from around Connecticut high school football deserves to be in the discussion?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Connecticut high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 26.

1. St. Thomas More Chancellors

St. Thomas More (1-2) takes over as the No. 1 team in our latest set of rankings after just narrowly falling to The St. James Academy, No. 1 team out of Virginia, 14-12.

The Chancellors only losses from the 2024 season came against Maryland’s St. Frances Academy, New Jersey’s Hun School, and Florida’s IMG Academy. St. Thomas More only game left remaining on their schedule is against New Jersey’s No. 3 team, Hun School, on Nov. 8.

Among the players the Chancellors feature on their roster are four-star edge rusher Alhassan Iddrissu (UCF), cornerback Terron Johnson, running back Malichi Greaves, and linebacker Christian King.

2. New Canaan Rams

The defending Class L state champion Rams (6-0) haven’t looked too much different than they did a season ago as they’ve rolled to four dominating wins over NewtownRidgefieldBunnellSt Joseph, Danbury, respectively, before last week’s 14-7 victory over No. 4 Greenwich.

New Canaan has used a high-powered offense to cruise past the first few of opponents so far, with quarterback Maddox Hoffman throwing for 953 yards and nine touchdowns this fall.

The Rams look to make it seven in a row when they take on Stamford this Friday night.

3. Avon Old Farms Beavers

Avon Old Farms (7-0) opened up the Connecticut high school football season by avenging a loss to Brunswick School from last season and have set the tone for the rest of the campaign. The Beavers have a talented offense that’s averaging well over 30 points per game, led by quarterback Matthew Baer, running back Kharon Craig, and offensive tackle Charlie Thom (Notre Dame commitment).

The Beavers picked up their biggest win of the season, knocking off previously undefeated Dexter School (Mass.), 29-28. Avon Old Farms aims to continue the undefeated run against The Loomis Chaffee School on Friday night.

4. Windsor Warriors

The Windsor Warriors (6-0) has been very dominant in their last three outings, out-scoring opponents 155-7.

Windsor has received strong quarterback play from senior Anthony Robinson, who has completed 102 of 139 passes for 1,838 yards, 21 touchdowns and only one interception thrown. Junior wide receiver Jayden Compton has been the primary target for Robinson, catching 42 passes for 922 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Next up for the Warriors is a Friday night meeting against Simsbury.

5. Greenwich Cardinals

Coming off winning Connecticut’s Class LL state championship a year ago, the Greenwich Cardinals (5-1) dropped their first game of the season against No. 2 New Canaan last week, 14-7.

There’s new faces on both sides of the ball that are looking to make new names for themselves, with a new starting quarterback in Phil Tarantino, who threw for 632 yards and eight touchdowns in the opener. Senior running back Hector Lopez leads the ground game, rushing for 889 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Cardinals look to get back into the win cloumn this week against Fairfield Ludlowe.
