Connecticut High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 16

The very last state to kickoff their season is Connecticut high school football as they began play on Sep. 12, with plenty of interesting results all around the state.

Taking the top spot after one week of play is the St. More Chancellors after the notched a 27-0 win over Wyoming Seminary Upper School. Which other teams from around the Constitution State deserve to be in the discussion?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Connecticut high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 16.

1. St. Thomas More Chancellors

St. Thomas More (1-0) head into the second week of play in Connecticut as the state’s No. 1 team after opening the 2025 season in dominating fashion when they rolled to a 27-0 victory over Wyoming Seminary Upper School.

The Chancellors only losses from a year ago came against Maryland’s St. Frances Academy, New Jersey’s Hun School, and Florida’s IMG Academy. St. Thomas More will have a rematch against St. Frances next month on October 10.

Among the players the Chancellors feature on their roster are four-star edge rusher Alhassan Iddrissu (UCF), cornerback Terron Johnson, running back Malichi Greaves, and linebacker Christian King.

2. New Canaan Rams

The defending Class L state champion Rams (1-0) didn’t look too much different than they did a season ago as they rolled to a season-opening, 30-10 victory over Newtown last week. Taking a closer look at New Canaan’s first game, they won with a balanced offensive attack, led by junior quarterback Maddox Hoffman’s 160 yards and a touchdown. New Canaan looks to improve to 2-0 this week when they face Ridgefield.

3. Avon Old Farms Beavers

There’s no better way to make a statement than to beat one of the state’s best teams in Brunswick School convincingly, 34-21.. Avon Old Farms (1-0) avenged a loss to Brunswick School from last season and have set the tone for the rest of the season. The Beavers have a talented offense, led by quarterback Matthew Baer, running back Kharon Craig, and offensive tackle Charlie Thom (Notre Dame commitment).

4. Greenwich Cardinals

Coming off winning Connecticut’s Class LL state championship a year ago, the Greenwich Cardinals (1-0) looked like a bunch prepared to repeat after starting the season with a 31-14 win over Fairfield College Preparatory.

There’s new faces on both sides of the ball that are looking to make new names for themselves, with a new starting quarterback in Phil Tarantino, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. Senior running back Hector Lopez leads the ground game, rushing for 124 yards.

5. Choate Rosemary Hall Wild Boars

Choate Rosemary Hall (0-1) saw its 18-game winning streak snapped in Week 1 when they lost against New Hampshire’s Phillips Exeter Academy in a battle of top-ranked teams in their respective states.

In 2024, the Wild Boars had completed their second consecutive perfect season after defeating Brunswick School. They have lost only three games over the last four Connecticut high school football seasons and only allowed only one opponent to score double digits.

The Wild Boars are another prep school that features multiple future Division I players, including Tanner Raymond (Rutgers) and interior offense lineman Will Tellers.
