The very last state to kickoff their season is Connecticut high school football as they began play on Sep. 12, with plenty of interesting results all around the state.

There’s a new No. 1 in this week’s Top 25 rankings out of the Constitution State as the New Canaan Rams takes the top spot away from St. Thomas More. Which other teams from around Connecticut high school football deserves to be in the discussion?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Connecticut high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 23.

1. New Canaan Rams

The defending Class L state champion Rams (2-0) haven’t looked too much different than they did a season ago as they’ve rolled to dominating blowout wins over Newtown and  Ridgefield, respectively. New Canaan has used a high-powered offense to cruise past the first couple of opponents so far, with quarterback Maddox Hoffman throwing for 332 yards and five touchdowns this fall. The Rams take aim at going 3-0 when they take on No. 12 ranked Bunnell on Friday.

2. St. Thomas More Chancellors

St. Thomas More (1-0) head into the third week of play in Connecticut as the state’s No. 2 team after opening the 2025 season in dominating fashion when they rolled to a 27-0 victory over Wyoming Seminary Upper School a couple weeks ago.

The Chancellors only losses from the 2024 season came against Maryland’s St. Frances Academy, New Jersey’s Hun School, and Florida’s IMG Academy. St. Thomas More will have a rematch against St. Frances next month on October 10, which is the next time they will take the field.

Among the players the Chancellors feature on their roster are four-star edge rusher Alhassan Iddrissu (UCF), cornerback Terron Johnson, running back Malichi Greaves, and linebacker Christian King.

3. Darien Blue Wave

Several players transferred during the off-season, leaving some to wonder where would the Darien Blue Wave be when stacking up against the state’s elites. through two weeks, they have been doing just fine as they have record back-to-back shutout victories over Naugatuck and Brien Mcmahon, respectfully.

This week’s contest against No. 24 ranked Masuk, which won Connecticut’s Class MM state championship a year ago, will be the club’s greatest test to date thus far. Can the Blue Wave get to 3-0 and keep things rolling?

4. Greenwich Cardinals

Coming off winning Connecticut’s Class LL state championship a year ago, the Greenwich Cardinals (2-0) looked like a bunch prepared to repeat after starting the season with a 31-14 win over Fairfield College Preparatory.

There’s new faces on both sides of the ball that are looking to make new names for themselves, with a new starting quarterback in Phil Tarantino, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. Senior running back Hector Lopez leads the ground game, rushing for 124 yards.

The Cardinals defeated Norwalk last week, 27-18, and prepare to square off with a winless Notre Dame bunch on Friday night.

5. Daniel Hand Tigers

It’s time to believe that Daniel Hand can compete with many of Connecticut’s best teams on a week-to-week basis. The Tigers are coming off an impressive 24-10 victory over North Haven last week and have proven they’re going nowhere under the tutelage of head coach Erik Becker.

Daniel Hand has received some strong play from their offense, led by senior quarterback Bobby Reh, who has thrown for 508 yards and four touchdowns. The Tigers aim to go 3-0 on Friday night when they clash with No. 19 ranked Brookfield.
