Connecticut High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 29

The Connecticut high school football is a quarter of the way through their regular season as the picture is becoming clearer when it comes to who are the top teams in the state.
Back and forth we go when it comes to who’s the No. 1 team in this week’s Top 25 rankings out of the Constitution State as St. Thomas More retakes the top spot away from New Canaan. Which other teams from around Connecticut high school football deserves to be in the discussion?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest Connecticut high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 29.
1. St. Thomas More Chancellors
St. Thomas More (1-0) are back as Connecticut high school football’s No. 1 team after opening the 2025 season in dominating fashion when they rolled to a 27-0 victory over Wyoming Seminary Upper School a few weeks ago.
The Chancellors only losses from the 2024 season came against Maryland’s St. Frances Academy, New Jersey’s Hun School, and Florida’s IMG Academy. St. Thomas More will have a rematch against St. Frances next month on October 10, which is the next time they will take the field.
Among the players the Chancellors feature on their roster are four-star edge rusher Alhassan Iddrissu (UCF), cornerback Terron Johnson, running back Malichi Greaves, and linebacker Christian King.
2. New Canaan Rams
The defending Class L state champion Rams (3-0) haven’t looked too much different than they did a season ago as they’ve rolled to three dominating wins over Newtown, Ridgefield and Bunnell, respectively.
New Canaan has used a high-powered offense to cruise past the first couple of opponents so far, with quarterback Maddox Hoffman throwing for 523 yards and five touchdowns this fall. The Rams take aim at going 4-0 when they take on the No. 16 ranked St Joseph Cadets on Saturday.
3. Avon Old Farms Beavers
Avon Old Farms (3-0) opened up the Connecticut high school football season by avenging a loss to Brunswick School from last season and have set the tone for the rest of the campaign. The Beavers have a talented offense that’s averaging 41.6 points per game, led by quarterback Matthew Baer, running back Kharon Craig, and offensive tackle Charlie Thom (Notre Dame commitment).
The Beavers return to action on Saturday against No. 8 Choate Rosemary Hall (2-1).
4. Daniel Hand Tigers
It’s time to believe that Daniel Hand can compete with many of Connecticut’s best teams on a week-to-week basis. The Tigers continued to shine in last week’s 38-7 win over Brookfield and have proven they’re going nowhere under the tutelage of head coach Erik Becker.
Daniel Hand has received some strong play from their offense, led by senior quarterback Bobby Reh, who has thrown for 714 yards and five touchdowns. The Tigers look to keep up their winning ways when they go on the road against Hamden.

5. Darien Blue Wave
Several players transferred during the off-season, leaving some to wonder where would the Darien Blue Wave be when stacking up against the state’s elites and through three weeks of play, they have been doing just fine as they have recorded multiple shutout victories over Naugatuck and Brien Mcmahon, respectfully.
Most recent victory was over last year’s Connecticut’s Class MM state champion Masuk Panthers in a 28-21 decision. The Blue Wave’s defense has been solid, only yielding seven points per game in the early going.
Now Darien will be up to their toughest contest of the season when they host No. 7 Staples (3-0) on Saturday.
