High School Football: How to watch No. 8 Mater Dei (Calif.) vs. No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Nev.)

The top high school football games in the country is taking place over in Sin City when the No. 8 ranked Mater Dei Monarchs travel into Nevada to take on the No. 2 Bishop Gorman Gaels. In a contest that is filled with national implications, the winner will have the inside track on remaining in the mythical national championship conversation. Check out players to watch for and How to Watch the Monarchs and Gaels clash in Las Vegas tonight.
Monarchs to Watch
Sitting at 2-1 on the season with a game canceled isn’t quite what the Monarchs thought they’d be at heading into the midway point of the season. Coming off a 43-36 loss to Corona Centennial, Mater Dei needs to bounce back tonight if they want to remain in contention for the all mythical national championship.
TE Mark Bowman: The 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end is the No. 16 overall prospect and No. 1 tight end in the senior class according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, an equally weighted formula that utilizes the three major recruiting services. Bowman so far this season has caught seven passes for 77 yards and the Monarchs need to get their five-star right going early and often. He committed to USC back in May.
WR Chris Henry Jr.: Perhaps the most talented player on this list, Henry (11 catches, 218 yards) has been strong after missing the second half of last season due to a knee injury. Henry is rated by the Rivals Industry Rankings as a five-star prospect and the No. 20 overall prospect in the senior class. He committed to Ohio State more than two years ago.
QB Ryan Hopkins: The three-star quarterback commitment has to get going early against a very talented Bishop Gorman secondary. Hopkins (Wisconsin commitment) this season has completed 36 of 64 passes for 654 yards and six touchdowns. What has stood out is the four interceptions and Hopkins will need to keep turnovers to a minimum tonight if Mater Dei wants to come away with the win.
DT Tomuhini Topui: A player that will need to dominate in the trenches in order for Mater Dei to come away with the win is the 6-foot-2, 327-pound Topui. The USC commitment when at the top of his game is as good as they come at the nose guard position. The four-star defensive lineman will need to create havoc for the Monarchs tonight.
Gaels to Watch
The last two weeks on paper looked like they might be tests for the Gaels, but instead have been pushovers. Bishop Gorman out-scored Lone Peak (Utah) and previously nationally ranked East St. Louis (Illinois) by a combined score of 70-24. Can they pull off their biggest win of the season tonight against a fuming Mater Dei squad?
QB Maika Eugenio: The Hawaii commitment has put up some sizzling numbers through the first half of the season for the Gaels. Eugenio so far has thrown for 1,044 yards, 14 touchdowns and just two mere interceptions. If there’s any player that really would need to come up huge tonight offensively, it would be Eugenio behind center.
S Jett Washington: No player on defense means more to Bishop Gorman than the Oregon commit himself. Washington, who is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Nevada and second among all safeties in the country, will need to help slow down a Mater Dei offense that put up 29 points in the second half of their loss to Corona Centennial.

WR Kaina Watson: When it comes to go-to-targets for Eugenio in the Gaels’ offense, Watson has been key through the first few games. The sophomore wide receiver has been clutch, hauling in 13 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown.
RB Noah Cole: We talked about the passing attack with Eugenio and Watson, but who is going to run the rock for the Gaels if they need to? It’s not if, but when and they do so with the sophomore out of the backfield. Cole leads the Gaels in rushing with 233 yards this fall.
