The 2025 Illinois high school football season proceeds to Week 2 after the teams have participated in their season openers. Some of the state’s top teams, based on the latest Massey Ratings, will be battling each other to either maintain their strong start or earn their first victory. Out of the hundreds of games happening this weekend, here are the ones that could turn into exciting matchups.

No. 5 St. Rita at No. 1 Chicago Mount Carmel

When: Friday, September 5, 8:30 p.m. ET
Where: Barda-Dowling Stadium, Chicago, Illinois

During their season opener, the Caravan escaped with a one-point victory over Archbishop Moeller, Ohio’s third-best team. They will now host St. Rita, which also won its opener against Marist. While the Mustangs are one of Illinois high school football’s top teams, Mount Carmel will overwhelm them with its superior talent.

Massey prediction: Mount Carmel 42, St. Rita 20

No. 8 Brother Rice at No. 14 Marist

When: Friday, September 5, 8:30 p.m. ET
Where: Marist High School Football Stadium, Chicago, Illinois

The Redhawks dropped their season opener against St. Rita. They will now play at home and host the Crusaders. Brother Rice won its opener against Indiana’s Valparaiso 43-19. They should give Marist a handful in a match that could be decided in the final drive.

Massey prediction: Marist 28, Brother Rice 26

No. 21 Geneva Community at No. 10 Oswego

When: Friday, September 5, 8:00 p.m. ET
Where: Ken Pickerill Stadium, Oswego, Illinois

The Panthers started the season with a 31-15 victory over Naperville Central. After playing on the road in their opener, Oswego will now enjoy home-field advantage against Geneva Community. However, it won’t be a walk in the park for the hosts because the Vikings are coming off a shutout 56-0 win over Larkin.

Massey prediction: Oswego 28, Geneva Community 21

No. 18 Homewood-Flossmoor at No. 17 St. Charles North

When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. PT
Where: St. Charles North Football Stadium, St. Charles, Illinois

After defeating Bolingbrook in their Illinois high school football season opener, Homewood-Flossmoor travels to St. Charles to face the North Stars. If St. Charles North defeated Minooka by one point last week, they could be in for another close game on Friday.

Massey prediction: Homewood-Flossmoor 36, St. Charles North 34

No. 20 Joliet Catholic Academy at No. 9 Glenbard West

When: Saturday, September 6, 2:30 p.m. ET
Where: Duchon Field, Glen Ellyn, Illinois

The Hillstoppers are still seeking their first win in the 2025 Illinois high school football season after losing to Lyons. Joliet Catholic Academy will now travel to Glenbard West to face a team coming off a hard-fought road win over Batavia. This should be an exciting matchup between two equally matched teams.

Massey prediction: Joliet Catholic 28, Glenbard West 23
