Louisiana High School Football Rankings: Top 25 teams – Oct. 27

Playoff football is nearly around the corner, and Louisiana high school programs are looking to put the finishing touches on the regular season in the next two weeks.
All eyes are on getting to New Orleans for state title weekend in December, but a lot will need to happen between now and then for the state’s top teams to get there. Coming out of Week 8, the top of the rankings are largely unchanged with Edna Karr still occupying the top spot.
But elsewhere down the list, there’s been some movement as teams look to close out the season strong. Below are the top 25 teams in Louisiana, according to the Massey Ratings.
1. Edna Karr Cougars (8-0)
Facing a Warren Easton squad that spent some time in the top-25 earlier this season, Karr was more than ready for the challenge on Friday night. The first quarter and a half was a back-and-forth affair, with Karr taking a 14-6 lead early in the second frame before Warren Easton closed it to 14-12 with 7:46 to go in the half. From there, quarterback John Johnson took over. The dual-threat star completed 12 of 15 passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Karr scored 49 unanswered points over the final 2 1/2 quarters to roll in a 63-12 rout.
2. Ruston Bearcats (6-2)
Ruston survived back-to-back big tests against Ouachita Parish and Neville, winning those two games by a combined 11 points. But Lady Luck wasn’t on their side Friday night, as Alexandria’s high-octane offense blitzed the Bearcats in a decisive 45-28 result. Ruston actually jumped out to a 21-3 lead and looked poised to take home a huge top-5 win, but Alexandria scored 31 unanswered points to secure its biggest victory of the season. Still though, the Bearcats remain at No. 2.
3. St. Augustine Purple Knights (7-1)
After dominating rival Archbishop Rummel in a 26-3 win last week, St. Augustine had another big one on the slate versus Brother Martin. This one was another impressive performance from the Purple Knights offense though, which led the way in a 49-16 rout. In a game that dates back more than 50 years, St. Aug’s ground game rolled up 241 yards and 35 attempts and controlled this one from start to finish.
4. John Curtis Patriots (7-0)
In the midst of its second of five games against top-20 teams to close the season, John Curtis continues to ace its tests. A week after rolling over Brother Martin, the Patriots used an explosive offense and stout defense to rout Jesuit 37-10. But their biggest challenge of the year so far comes in the next two weeks when they face No. 1 Edna Karr and No. 3 St. Augustine back to back.

5. Alexandria Trojans (8-1)
Despite an extremely impressive 45-28 win over No. 2 Ruston, the Trojans remain unchanged in this week’s poll. Do-it-all sophomore Kason Williams was the star of the show for Alexandria, rushing for 219 yards, adding 31 more through the air and a touchdown. Over the past three games, the sophomore has rolled up 528 rushing yards to power the 8-1 Trojans, who look to be a legit state title contender.
