The 2025 Maryland high school football season continues with St. Frances Academy firmly at the driver’s seat of the state’s top 25 rankings. Meanwhile, Georgetown Preparatory School completes the list at 25th. Which teams join them? Read through to find out the best squads from the Old Line State, according to Massey.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. St. Frances Academy Panthers

The Panthers have won two in a row following their 66-0 shutout victory over Hewlett Sports Academy, improving their record to 3-1. In that dominating win, five-star edge rusher Zion Elee lined up on offense and scored a 56-yard rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, quarterback Denari Hill completed touchdown passes to Jaylen Burrell, Wayne Henry, and tight end Destin Mitchell. In addition to Elee, St. Frances Academy got rushing touchdowns from Sa’Nir Brooks, Jaylen Burke, James Branch, and Coen Logan.

2. DeMatha Catholic Stags

The Stags’ dominance continues after scoring a 41-0 shutout victory against Mt. Zion Prep Academy. DeMatha Catholic owned a 27-0 halftime lead and kept attacking the Warriors. The Stags will return to action against Riverdale Baptist on October 3.

3. Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers

The Cavaliers have won two in a row after making light work against Calvert Hall 56-14. Brian Snowden Jr. had a field day, finishing with 16 completions for 284 yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, Kam Miller had three rushing and two receiving touchdowns in the first half alone. Archbishop Spalding can make it three wins in a row by defeating Gilman on September 26.

4. Good Counsel Falcons

The Falcons are still among the top ten teams in Maryland high school football despite a 24-0 loss to Pennsylvania’s St. Joseph’s Prep. Despite the loss, Dylan Cleary’s blocked punt deserves mention. Good Counsel hopes to get back on the winning track against St. James Academy on September 26.

5. McDonogh School Eagles

After losing to Archbishop Spalding, the Eagles bounced back by defeating Loyola Blakefield, 48-29. Braeden Palazzo threw for 194 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Mason Graham had 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Caden Cashman, Jansen Craig, and Matthew Tees all had receiving TDs. 7. Calvert Hall College Cardinals

After starting the 2025 Maryland high school football season with back-to-back victories, the Cardinals suffered consecutive losses to La Salle College and Archbishop Spalding.
