NEPSAC receiving praise from Joe Tessitore, Dan Orlovsky
The New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) has been receiving a heck of a lot of praise from a couple of top ESPN personalties as the Overtime Nationals championship game just took place in Baltimore.
ESPN’s Joe Tessitore and Dan Orlovsky called the national title game on Wednesday night, bringing a lot of intrigue across the country for the Corner Canyon-St. Frances Academy matchup.
Tessitore earlier in the week praised a number of NEPSAC schools, such as Connecticut’s No. 1 ranked Avon Old Farms, No. 3 ranked Choate Rosemary and a few others.
“The prestigious academic boarding schools of Connecticut are now where national recruits go because they have post graduates and the SEC is recruiting Avon Old Farms and Choate and Loomis Chafee and Andover, Exeter, and Deerfield Academy [in Massachusetts] to the schools in North Jersey, Georgia, Texas, Florida, and California West Coast,” Tessitore said to Front Office Sports earlier this week.
Rivals caught up with Orlovsky after the championship game and asked the former NFL quarterback if he thought any of the NEPSAC schools might make the jump to playing nationally ranked teams because of the talent they have on their respective rosters.
“I think so,” Orlovsky said of teams from NEPSAC teams making the leap to playing nationally ranked teams. “I think there’s so many good programs around the country and so many good players. This is like the starting point and I think you’re going to see a lot of schools (seeing the event) with a high-level of appeal in what it could become and want to be apart of it.”

For folks wondering how could high school football teams from the New England region compete with those nationally ranked teams across the country, taking a deeper dive into some of the rosters might give you a good starting point.
Avon Old Farms features Notre Dame offensive tackle signee Charlie Thom and Massachusetts’ Tabor Academy has Michigan commitment Peter Bourque manning its offense.
With all the future Division I talent on several of the NEPSAC teams, it seems more like a matter of not if but when we could see some New England boarding schools take the next step on the national high school football scene.
