The New York high school football campaign is winding down as the postseason approaches, with teams heading into their final week or two of regular season play.
The latest set of Empire State rankings has Iona Preparatory School as New York’s No. 1 high school football team once again, though the Gaels lost to Monsignor Farrell, 28-21, a couple weeks ago. A newbie within the Top 5 of the rankings is St. Anthony’s after a dominant, 49-21 win over Archbishop Stepinac.
Which other New York high school football teams make the list in our next set of Top 25 rankings of the regular season?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest New York high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 27.
1. Iona Preparatory School Gaels
Iona Prep (7-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season when they rolled to a 47-13 beatdown of Kellenberg Memorial last week.
The Gaels started the regular season with a bang, halting the Somers Tuskers’ winning streak and routed them, 37-7, at the Hero’s Bowl Classic and then followed it up with a 53-43 victory over a very good Paramus Catholic team out of New Jersey.
Iona Prep closes out the regular season this week when they face Archbishop Stepinac on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Quarterback Julian Guzman has led the way for Iona Prep’s offense, throwing for 1,541 yards and 17 touchdowns through eight games. Running back Crew Davis, a three-star prospect committed to North Carolina, has spearheaded to the Gaels’ efforts on the offensive side of the ball with 843 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground this season.
2. Monsignor Farrell Lions
Monsignor Farrell (7-1) continued to build their case for the No. 1 spot after they cruised to a 28-6 win over St. Joseph by the Sea last week.
The Lions end the regular season with a chance to secure a No. 1 seed heading into the New York Catholic High School Football League (NYCHSFL) playoffs as they face Cardinal Hayes (1-6) this week.
Sophomore quarterback Bryce Moye has been solid behind center in the Lions’ first eight games as the signal caller completed 91 of 125 passes for 1,366 yards, 14 touchdowns and just one pick. Senior running back Kevin Gumb Jr. has been the workhorse out of the backfield this season, with the tailback rushed for 963 yards and 13 touchdowns.
3. Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy Brothers
Christian Brothers Academy (8-0) nearly got nipped by the upset bug last week, barely pulling off a 21-20 win over Cicero-North Syracuse.
The 2025 season kicked off with a dominating 28-7 victory over Whitesboro to start off at 1-0. Christian Brothers improved to 7-0 after last week’s 42-10 romp over a previously undefeated Liverpool. Looking at the gap between CBA’s scoring versus their opponents is wide as the Brothers have out-scored the opposition 346-53 through seven contests.

4. Tottenville Pirates
The Tottenville Pirates (7-0) continues to cruise through the regular season, latest win being a 43-20 rout of Abraham Lincoln.
After the midway point, the Pirates have out-scored their opponents 268-120 on the season, with their offense averaging an impressive 38.2 points per game. With the way their regular season schedule plays out the rest of the way, Tottenville should be undefeated heading into the postseason.

5. St. Anthony’s Friars
For the first time since the early days of the regular season, the St. Anthony’s Friars (5-4) have made their way back into the Top 5 after a 49-21 rout of Archbishop Stepinac.
One of the major reasons for the team’s success has been the play on the ground by junior four-star running back Xavier Bala, who has rushed for 879 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. Also playing well is sophomore quarterback Anthony Diieso, who has thrown for 1,208 yards and six scores.
The Friars will close out the season with Fordham Prep on Halloween night.
