Iona defeated Cardinal Hayes 42-14 in CHSAA football action at Iona Prep in New Rochelle Sept. 27, 2025.

New York high school football begins hitting the midway point this week and not much has changed when it comes to our weekly Top 25 rankings. The latest set of rankings sees Iona Preparatory School remain New York’s No. 1 high school football team, with Christian Brothers Academy and Monsignor Farrell following behind them.

Which other New York high school football teams make the list in our next set of Top 25 rankings of the regular season?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest New York high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 29.

1. Iona Preparatory School Gaels

Iona Prep (4-0) sits firmly at the top of New York high school football ever since starting the 2025 season off with an impressive victory right out of the gates. It kicked the season off on Sept. 6 with a high-profile, neutral site matchup against Somers, which was riding a 27-game winning streak.

The Gaels halted the Tuskers’ winning streak and routed them, 37-7, at the Hero’s Bowl Classic and then followed it up with a 53-43 victory over Paramus Catholic of New Jersey. Iona Prep made a statement last week with a decisive 42-14 thumping of Cardinal Hayes to remain undefeated.

Quarterback Julian Guzman has led the way for Iona Prep’s offense, throwing for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns through four games. Running back Crew Davis, a three-star prospect committed to North Carolina, has spearheaded to the Gaels’ efforts on the offensive side of the ball with 429 yards and six touchdowns on the ground this season.

The top-ranked Gaels head over to Long Island on Friday night to face a solid St. Anthony’s squad that features Xavier Bala at running back. Davis and Bala going head-to-head is something to watch if you’re looking to watch future collegiate running backs go at it.

2. Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy Brothers

Christian Brothers Academy (4-0) has proven themselves time and time again as one of the top high school football programs in the state of New York and are looking the part once again this fall.

The 2025 season kicked off a few weeks ago as the Brothers dominated Whitesboro in a 28-7 decision to start off at 1-0. Christian Brothers improved to 4-0 last week with another blowout victory, this time a 63-0 rout against Baldwinsville.

The Brothers take aim at a 5-0 record when they face off against Thomas R Proctor (2-2) on Saturday.

3. Monsignor Farrell Lions

Monsignor Farrell (3-1) made a move upwards of a couple spots this week when they defeated St. Anthony’s in a 21-20 battle over on Long Island. For the Lions, it’s the latest impressive win for the program as they look to make a statement heading into the second half of their schedule.

Sophomore quarterback Bryce Moye has been solid behind center in the Lions’ first four games as the signal caller completed 37 of 51 passes for 579 yards and six touchdowns. Senior running back Kevin Gumb Jr. has been the workhorse out of the backfield this season, with the tailback rushed for 664 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Lions are back at it on Friday night when they take on Fordham Prep.

4. Tottenville Pirates

Mission accomplished for the Tottenville Pirates (5-0) after barely getting by a feisty No. 14 Erasmus Hall squad, 38-35, last week.

At the midway point, the Pirates have out-scored their opponents 183-93 on the season, with their offense averaging an impressive 36.6 points per game. With the way their schedule plays out the rest of the way, Tottenville should go 8-0 heading into the postseason.

The Pirates now look to remain unbeaten this upcoming Saturday when they face Susan E Wagner (1-2).

5. Garden City Trojans

The Trojans boast one of the longest active winning streaks in the nation with 57-straight victories. This season has been another dominant one for Garden City as they’ve out-scored their opponents 129-23 so far.

If the Trojans can continue their winning ways, they’ll have a chance to tie the state record for consecutive wins in the regular-season finale at New Hyde Park Memorial on Nov. 1.

Up next for Garden City is a matchup against Gen Douglas MaCarthur Senior on Saturday.
