North Carolina High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Dec. 8

The 2025 North Carolina high school football season is down to its final state championship games. Here’s how Massey ranked the state’s best teams before the competition closes. In addition to squads that have been on the top 25 list for weeks, three teams have reentered this week’s rankings.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. William Amos Hough Huskies

The Huskies’ record sits at 13-0 before their North Carolina high school football Class 8A state championship showdown against Millbrook. William Amos Hough’s victories are a combination of close calls (three-point win against Virginia’s Highland Springs) and blowouts (66-0 shutout of Garinger).

2. Providence Day School Chargers

Throughout the Chargers’ undefeated season, they’ve limited eight opponents to single-digit scoring (including five shutouts). With their season over, WR Gordon Sellars (Clemson), IOL Leo Delaney (Clemson), QB Zaid Lott (Clemson), IOL Miles Funderburk, IOL Derrin Carr, and RB Aidan Gallos have played their final high school football games.

3. Grimsley Whirlies

The Whirlies won a low-scoring 13-7 game against Weddington to capture the North Carolina high school football Class 7A regional championship. Ty Shoemake led the way with 147 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Kyrie Millner made ten tackles, including three for negative yardage. Grimsley will face Clayton in the state championship game on December 12.

4. Millbrook Wildcats

The Wildcats booked their ticket to the Class 8A state championship game after defeating Hoggard in the regionals 14-7. Brilison McCullers scored both Millbrook touchdowns and finished with 45 rushing yards. Malachi Gilchrist made five catches for 103 yards. The Wildcats and the Huskies will play for the state title on December 11.

5. Weddington Warriors

The Warriors’ season ended with a 13-7 loss to Grimsley in the North Carolina high school football Class 7A West Regional Final. Sadly, Weddington’s state championship hopes were dashed by their lowest-scoring game this season. After closing the season at 12-2, the Warriors will bid farewell to college-bound players Aiden Harris (South Carolina), Andrew Harris (South Carolina), KD Cotton (Duke), and Thomas Davis Jr. (Notre Dame).
