Pennsylvania High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 7

The high school football season continued in Pennsylvania last week, as many of the top programs in the Keystone State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed. La Salle College won a sloppy game, Harrisburg won a double-overtime thriller and three top-10 teams pitched shutouts.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Pennsylvania high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 7.
1. La Salle College (3-0)
In a matchup between the top-ranked teams in Pennsylvania and Delaware, La Salle College came out on top of Salesianum, 28-17. Nothing came easy in this game for the Explorers as they overcame penalties and special teams miscue to emerge with the victory. Next week’s game against Calvert Hall (Md.) will mark La Salle’s first home game of the season.
2. Harrisburg (3-0)
Harrisburg climbs to No. 2 in the Pennsylvania high school rankings after a thrilling 48-45 double overtime victory over No. 21 State College Area. Cougars quarterback Jaiyon Lewis scored four touchdowns in the win. Penn State commit Messiah Mickens did not play after suffering an injury last week against Bishop McDevitt. Harrisburg’s schedule really opens up from here and it’s not a stretch to think this team could roll through the regular season undefeated.
3. St. Joseph’s Prep School (0-2)
The Hawks were idle this week, no doubt licking their wounds after their 45-17 loss to DeMatha Catholic in Week 2. St. Joseph’s Prep will have a huge opportunity to turn the tone of its season around on Saturday when it faces St. Frances Academy, the top-ranked team in Maryland.
4. Roman Catholic (2-1)
The Cahillite logged a workmanlike victory over Springside Chestnut Hill on Friday, 21-12. Quarterback Semaj Beals, an Akron commit, completed 18-of-27 passes for 178 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the win. Next up for Roman Catholic is a matchup against DeMatha Catholic.
5. Central Catholic (2-1)
Central Catholic made quick work of Woodland Hills, routing the Wolverines 58-20 on Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Owen Herrick threw three touchdowns and ran for another in the rout. The team will take on winless Mt. Lebanon on Friday.
6. Malvern Prep (1-1)
Special teams and defense were major question marks after Malvern Prep‘s season-opening loss to La Salle College, and the Friars were significantly better in both areas during their 29-0 win over Delbarton on Saturday. Malvern Prep will continue its season Friday against Imhotep Institute.
7. Peters Township (3-0)
The Indians posted their second-consecutive shutout on Friday, blanking Mt. Lebanon 35-0. Quarterback Nolan DiLucia threw for 288 yards and scored two touchdowns while running back Cole Neupaver accounted for three total scores in the win. Next up for Peters Township is a matchup against West Allegheny on Friday.
8. Upper Saint Clair (3-0)
Upper Saint Clair left no doubt on Friday, racing out to a 42-0 halftime lead before cruising to a 49-6 decision over Franklin Regional. The Panthers’ season continues on Friday against Hampton.

The Friars fended off Archbishop Wood 35-7 on Friday thanks to a five-score performance from running back Saalem Frink. Monsignor Bonner defender Chibuzo Amobi was all over the field as well, logging 3.5 sacks and five quarterback pressures in the win. The Friars will face their toughest test of the young Pennsylvania high school football season on Friday when they take on Haverford.
10. North Allegheny (3-0)
The Tigers pitched their second-straight shutout on Friday, besting Penn Hills 35-0. This one was all North Allegheny from the start as the team raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
