With another season of South Carolina high school football officially starting, the teams are looking for a good run to start the year. Meanwhile, the state’s top 25 teams have their respective battles for state championships. As the opening weekend has closed, here are the best of the best from the Palmetto State.

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Northwestern Trojans

South Carolina high school football’s best team made light work of Spartanburg. In addition to limiting the Vikings to seven points, Amarian Coleman had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, and Quay Mobley had a 20-yard rushing TD in the first half. Mobley added another rushing touchdown before Spartanburg put points on the board. Northwestern will aim to extend its winning streak to 16 games (dating back to last season) against Ridge View on Aug. 29.

2. Dutch Fork Foxes

The Foxes finished the 2024 South Carolina high school football season with a perfect 13-0 record en route to the Class AAAAA Division I state championship. 3. South Pointe Stallions

The Stallions lost their season opener to William Amos Hough, North Carolina’s top team. J’Zavien Currence scored South Pointe’s lone touchdown in their 14-10 loss to the Huskies. The Stallions will try to bounce back against Rock Hill, their first South Carolina high school football opponent this season, on Aug. 29.

4. Gaffney Indians

The Indians closed the 2024 South Carolina high school football season with a loss to Northwestern. Sadly, they opened this year’s campaign with a loss to North Carolina’s Independence. Gaffney can bounce back by defeating J. L. Mann on August 29.
