The high school football season continued in South Carolina last week, as many of the Palmetto State’s top programs were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for state championships. Below are the top 25 high school football teams in South Carolina, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 1.

1. Northwestern Trojans

After a convincing season-opening victory over Spartanburg, the Trojans maintained their perfect record by defeating Ridge View. While the Blazers had the final offensive drive, Northwestern’s defense stood its ground to preserve a 35-28 triumph. Likewise, quarterback Xavier Means threw for four touchdowns, three to Kam Vance. The Trojans will try to extend their active winning streak to 17 games when they visit South Florence on Sept. 5.

2. Dutch Fork Foxes

The Foxes extended their winning streak to 22 games after defeating Spartanburg, 54-21. They had six rushing touchdowns, including two each from Kyle Henry and Isaac Shine. It’s a good start to their 2025 South Carolina high school football season as they try to win their fourth consecutive Class AAAAA Division 1 state championship. Dutch Fork’s schedule continues against Ridge View on Sept. 5.

3. Irmo Yellow Jackets

The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 with a 35-32 victory over Byrnes. Coincidentally, Irmo scored the same number of points as in their season opener against Oceanside Collegiate Academy. Drevon Dopson found Malik Miller for a 13-yard game-winning touchdown pass with 34 seconds left in regulation. Dopson finished with 213 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Miller had 258 all-purpose yards and two TDs. They will aim for a 3-0 record against North Carolina’s Butler on Sept. 5.

4. South Pointe Stallions

After losing to William Amos Hough, North Carolina’s top-ranked team, the Stallions bounced back with a 28-6 victory over Rock Hill. R.J. Brown had 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while South Carolina commit J’Zavien Currence connected with Malik Ratliff on a touchdown pass. Meanwhile, the South Pointe defense pulled out all the stops, finishing with 12 sacks (including three from Joshua McClure) and 23 tackles for losses. The team will try to start a winning streak as they face West Charlotte on September 5.

5. South Florence Bruins

After an easy win against West Florence, the Bruins improved in the South Carolina high school football standings via a 22-21 overtime victory over Summerville. Quarterback Messiah Jackson saved South Florence with three rushing touchdowns and a passing score to JayAun Perkins. Pulling off an upset against Northwestern on Sept. 5 would improve their record to 3-0.
