Texas High School Football Games of the Week: Sep. 4-6

The Texas high school football season heads into its second week of play this weekend, and the Lone Star State features another host of intriguing games on tap. Here are the five biggest matchups from Week 2:
No. 21 Byron Nelson at No. 16 Lewisville
When: Thursday, Sep. 4 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Max Goldsmith Stadium, Lewisville, Texas
Texas high school football’s Week 2 slate begins on Thursday night with a slew of games, with the Fighting Farmers hosting the Bobcats as the highlighted contest. Byron Nelson kicked off 2025 with a 30-7 win over Frenship, an impressive showing behind a solid outing by quarterback Parker Almanza (20 of 28 passes, 178 yards, two touchdowns). Lewisville looked equally as grand in their 34-7 win over Mansfield Summit, with signal caller Tre Williams leading the way with 197 yards and three touchdowns. This could be the tightest matchup when it comes to competition on the field.
Massey Prediction: Lewisville 28, Byron Nelson 20
Katy at No. 13 Atascocita
When: Friday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Turner Stadium, Humble, Texas
Katy is coming off a 11-2 season, but opened the season with a disappointing 34-21 loss to Dickinson. The Tigers had a tough time moving the ball, only accumulating 157 total yards of offense and it doesn’t get too much easier against Atascocita. The Eagles had no such problems when they defeated Lamar last week, 48-28, and they have the weapons on offense to potentially have another big outing offensively. Atascocita will lean on the play of senior running back Cardae Mack (Arizona State commit) and junior quarterback Isaiah Rasheed.
Massey Prediction: Atascocita 42, Katy 21
No. 4 Aledo at Lancaster
When: Friday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium, Lancaster, Texas
Lancaster gave No. 2 ranked North Crowley a scare in Week 1, with the Tigers narrowly losing 22-18. The Tigers aim to claim their first win of the season when they return to the friendly confines of home against another Top 5 opponent in Aledo. The Bearcats will look to get Notre Dame commitment Kaydon Finley more involved at wide receiver after he caught four passes for 15 yards in the regular season opener. Aledo has leaned more on their rushing attack as running back Kaden Winkfield rushed for 88 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Massey Prediction: Aledo 34, Lancaster 21
No. 13 South Oak Cliff at No. 1 Duncanville
When: Friday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Panther Stadium, Duncanville, Texas

Fresh of their upset win over North Shore last week, South Oak Cliff heads to face the top-ranked team in the state and takes on Duncanville. In another chance for the Golden Bears to make a statement, they will do so as the first opponent up for the Panthers. Duncanville had a bye week in Week 1 and will show folks a new look offense as they look to replace Alabama freshman Keelon Russell behind center.
South Oak Cliff’s offensive line is led by a pair of Power Four recruits in senior three-star Cortavious Tisaby (Arizona State commit) and junior four-star Brian Swanson. The two seniors paved the way for the Golden Bears to rush for over 300 yards on the ground and a couple touchdowns in the win over North Shore.
Massey Prediction: Duncanville 45, South Oak Cliff 14
No. 15 DeSoto vs. No. 2 North Crowley
When: Friday, Sep. 5 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Crowley ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas
The defending Class 6A, Division I state champion Panthers began their title defense against a solid Lancaster club last week at home, coming away with a 22-18 victory. North Crowley will need to bring plenty of motivation into this week’s matchup against a DeSoto team reeling from a 70-28 dismantling by Creekside (Ga.) over the weekend. Last year’s meeting was an offensive firework show as the Panthers and Eagles combined to score 108 points, with North Crowley coming away with the 57-51 win. Both offenses are trying to find their groove with many moving pieces on each side. Which one can get some better cohesion might be the victor here.
Massey Prediction: North Crowley 42, DeSoto 35
