After a two-year hiatus from being state champions, South Oak Cliff is back at the mountain top.

The Golden Bears used an explosive first half, aided by the play of senior wide receiver Torrin Teague, barreled by Randle, 35-19, for the UIL Class 5A, Division II state championship game on Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.

With the win, South Oak Cliff wins their third state championship in program history.

What stood out in the first half between the two teams was the number of explosives offensively between the two clubs as Randle’s lone score of the half would come on a 100-yard kickoff return by running back Landen Williams-Callis.

Other than that, the Lions had a very difficult time keep the Golden Bears off the scoreboard as South Oak Cliff’s offense was clicking on all cylinders on the afternoon.

South Oak Cliff got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter when quarterback Xavier Mayfield connected with Teague on a 7-yard touchdown strike. Later in the period, running back Mikail Trotter would score the first of his two touchdowns that put the Golden Bears ahead 14-0.

After the kickoff return score by Randle, South Oak Cliff quickly responded with touchdowns from Teague and Trotter, respectively, just before halftime to take a 28-10 lead into the break.
