Coming off arguably the most exciting week of the Texas high school football season, it was going to be difficult for the Lone Star State to live up that every week.

The Southlake Carroll Dragons kept up their winning ways as the state’s No. 1 with another blowout victory while teams like North Crowley and Lake Travis moved up in this week’s rankings. So which other Lone Star State programs got to take advantage and move up the rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Texas high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 29.

1. Southlake Carroll Dragons

Southlake Carroll are destined to go 10-0 this season based on the way they’re playing. The Dragons have been by far the most consistent team in Texas high school football season and every week on the field, the validate that.

The Dragons (5-0) started the 2025 season off with a bang when they cruised to a 49-0 rout of Midland and followed it up with a 35-7 thrashing of Hebron. Southlake Carroll’s latest victory was a 55-13 beatdown of Timber Creek.

Pittsburgh commit Angelo Renda (1,404 yards, 15 touchdowns) and his favorite target, Ohio State pledge Brock Boyd, who hauled in 111 passes for 1,868 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2024, remain the state’s top quarterback-wide receiver tandem. Boyd through five games has caught 28 passes for 415 yards and is the school’s new all-time leading receiving leader.

This week the undefeated Dragons return home to face Keller (3-2).

2. Allen Eagles

Five-time UIL state champion Allen Eagles (5-0) hold steady as the state’s No. 2 team after a 62-0 thrashing of McKinney last week.

The Eagles have been dominant through five games as they opened with a 46-13 victory over Midland Legacy, breezed by Cedar Hill, 38-0 and then thumped Rock Hill in a 70-14 rout before cruising past Plano in a 55-0 romp.

Allen faces off against Princeton (4-1) this week and the game the Eagles will likely be eyeing is a Oct. 24 meeting with Prosper.

The Eagles have utilized both senior Jeremiah Daoud and freshman quarterback Ty Snell behind center this season. Daoud has completed 54 of 68 passes for 738 yards and eight touchdowns and Snell has thrown for 308 and four scores. Key stat is neither quarterback has yet to throw an interception this season.

3. North Crowley Panthers

North Crowley (4-1) had a week to stew on things after stunned by Rockwall in a 37-35 decision, which dropped them from the top spot in the state. The Panthers bounced back nicely, however, in a 68-0 thrashing of Mansfield Legacy last week.

What head coach Ray Gates and his staff have to figure out is how they will get the team refocused after losing for the first time since 2023. North Crowley still keeps its sights set on winning the UIL Class 6A, Division I state championship this fall.

The Panthers still feature what has to still be considered one of the more talented defensive secondaries in the Lone Star State, which includes players like Texas Tech commit Aaron Bradshaw, three-star safety Elijajuan Houston, four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse and Colorado State commit Thomas Cook

The Panthers have a bye week before returning to play on Oct. 10 when they take on Lake Ridge.

4. Aledo Bearcats

It was another ho hum week for the Aledo Bearcats as they rolled to a 56-14 romp over Fossil Ridge.

Despite last year’s starter Gavin Beard transferring to All Saints Episcopal, which opened the door for Nash McElree to emerge as the team’s QB1, and the Aledo Bearcats (5-0) have looked just fine in the first few weeks of play.

Aledo has simply taken care of business week after week, starting against a solid Lancaster squad, coming away with the 18-0 win then dispatching Brewer, 54-7, easily rolling by Birdville in a 56-7 rout and then Fossil Ridge most recently.

Up next for Aledo is a road matchup against undefeated Ryan (4-0) on Friday night.

5. Lake Travis Cavaliers

Entering the Top 5 of the rankings this week are the Lake Travis Cavaliers after they easily cruised past Bowie in a 63-21 thrashing.

There’s not many teams in Texas that can boast a pair of EDGE rushers like Lake Travis has in seniors Ben Duncum (Kentucky commit) and Carter Buck (TCU commit). Buck has been off to a hot start and notched 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks so far this season.

The Cavaliers are another team on this list that has themselves a bye week before playing again on Oct. 10 against Del Valle. Lake Travis’ biggest test the rest of the way is a Oct. 17 meeting with Dripping Springs (5-0).
