Get excited, Texas high school football fans. It’s almost time is to get geared up, close down the town and head out to the stadium to checkout Friday Night Lights in your respective town. Question running through many people’s minds are what games – well, other than all of them – should they really be keeping their eye out for this fall?

We did the homework for you and plucked out 10 Texas high school football games that you should plan on watching.

1. DeSoto at North Crowley, Sept. 5

This one at the top is a no-brainer. These teams will combine to have over 40 Division I prospects on the field all at one time. With both teams looking to compete for state championships and North Crowley expecting a packed house, this one could be a candidate for Texas Game of the Year.

2. DeSoto at Duncanville, Oct. 10

The Eagles have to go on the road in both matchups against state powers Duncanville and North Crowley. Definitely a tough luck of the draw there. When it comes to the game itself, the Panthers won this affair 42-20 last season. We see this year’s edition being a little closer.

3. Atascocita at North Shore, Oct. 24

There’s plenty of offensive fireworks that could happen in this contest. Last year’s meeting was a narrow 27-23 victory by the Mustangs. Both teams bring back plenty of weapons on offense, making this a game that could see a lot of points and go down to the wire.

4. Trinity at Southlake Carroll, Sept. 19

Speaking of offensive explosions, both the Trojans and Dragons put on a show when they met last season. Southlake Carroll was able to edge out Trinity in a barnburner, coming away with a thrilling 56-48 victory. Looking at the way both teams offenses are just about intact heading into 2025, the ingredients for another big offensive night are there.

5. North Crowley at Guyer, Sept. 12

Some may take a look at this matchup and wonder if both teams are a little closer in talent compared to a year ago. Though the Panthers don’t have quite the offensive firepower, this doesn’t have the feel of last year’s 49-28 rout of Guyer. We think this time around, the gap has closed between the two programs, somewhat anyways.

6. Westlake at Atascocita, Sep. 12

If you don’t think that Westlake doesn’t have this game marked in big red marker on their calendar, well, we think you might be a little delusional. This was by in some cases a rout by Atascocita as they rolled to a 39-21 win over Westlake a year. With the two clubs meeting early in the season once again, this one could get a bit chippy.

7. Vandegrift at Dripping Springs, Aug. 29

This game was the opener for both clubs last season, with Vandegrift coming away in a 31-14 decision. Dripping Springs has graduated some key players, likewise for the Vipers. Coming right out of the gates in this game with a victory will tell a lot for how it dictates the early portion of the regular season schedule.

8. Lake Travis at Westlake, Oct. 24

With Lake Travis graduating quarterback Chaston Ditta, it takes a little bit of steam away from what was a pretty good game last fall. Despite some good characters from last year’s meeting between the two state powers, this one always lines up to being one of the better tilts of the year. Can it live up to the hype?

9. North Shore at South Oak Cliff, Aug. 29

So we dropped this game down the list, even though it’s a season opener, because last year’s encounter turned into a 38-0 rout by North Shore. Now we didn’t place the game on the list because we think there will be a repeat of such, but obviously that’s in the back of anyone’s mind who saw this one turn into a blowout last year.

10. Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) at Melissa, Aug. 29

Never before has a team from the Garden State made their way down to the great state of Texas and played a high school football game. There’s a first for everything right? The Cardinals will get to attempt to be the first team from the Lone Star State to host a New Jersey club and send them back with a loss. Oh, and this game is the home opener for Melissa so no pressure, Cardinals.
