Utah high school football coach Eric Kjar leaves Corner Canyon for Weber State
Longtime Utah high school football head coach Eric Kjar will be making the shift to college football. As Deseret News’ James Edward reported, the former Corner Canyon head coach signed a four-year contract to take over the Weber State football program.
Kjar coached high school football for 17 seasons and led the Chargers to seven state championships, including the Class 6A crown last month. For now, the Wyoming native will be one championship shy of the state record (8) shared by three coaches. He is also one state championship game appearance shy of the record of nine straight (1995-2003) by Skyline High School.
This season, Kjar led Corner Canyon to a 12-2 record, losing only to Lone Peak and Maryland’s St. Frances Academy during the first-ever Overtime Nationals Championship. In total, he lost only ten games in nine seasons at Corner Canyon while chalking up 112 victories.
Before joining the Chargers, he coached the Jordan High School football team and led the Beetdiggers to a 69-29 record and a state title. Meanwhile, two of his high school football quarterbacks, Zach Wilson and Jaxson Dart, made it to the National Football League.

Weber State hired Eric Kjar after the Wildcats split two games under interim head coach Brett Myers. Before Myers took over, the Big Sky Conference team fired Mickey Mental after three years at the helm.
With Kjar leaving Utah high school football for the NCAA, he will be joining his oldest son, Noah, who is playing for Weber State. However, an ACL injury derailed his rookie season. Conversely, he might leave behind his other son, Carter, who is a high school junior.
