Looking back at the week for the state of Utah and they came away a proud for showing out on the national scene.

That’s because the state’s top-ranked Corner Canyon Chargers traveled down to South Florida and played in the Broward County Classic High School Football Showcase, defeating a very talented West Broward. Besides the Chargers, who else came away impressing and rising up the Utah Top 25 rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Utah Top 25 high school football rankings, according to Massey.

1. Corner Canyon Chargers (2-0)

Corner Canyon packed up their bags and made the long trip down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to participate in the fourth annual Broward County Classic High School Football Showcase and it’s safet to say they made quite the impression.

The Chargers flexed their muscles and routed West Broward in a 38-13 decison, bringing the team to 2-0 on the season. What has really separated this Corner Canyon team from everyone else around the Beehive State is the play of their offense.

Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga behind center has been nothing less than stellar through two games, with the future Aggie completing 24-of-39 passes for 468 yards and two touchdowns. Also playing well is senior running back Weston Briggs, who has rushed for 225 yards and scored twice.

2. Skyridge Falcons (2-0)

Skyridge might’ve seen a regression in 2024, but the Falcons haven’t looked any bit like the team of a year ago.

Through two games, Skyridge’s offense has turned up the heat on opposing defenses, averaging 48.5 points so far.

Three-star BYU commit Kaneal Sweetwyne is back at the helm of the offense and has shined early on. Minnesota pledge Mataalii Benjamin has protected Sweetwyne’s blind side and Jernaro Gilford, Jr. has proven himself as one of the state’s top junior pass catchers.

The Falcons have a couple winnable games before a Sep. 12 showdown against Colorado’s top-ranked Cherry Creek on the road. For Skyridge, it’s a crucial three-game stretch to see how much they have improved from 2024.

3. Lone Peak Knights (2-0)

Lone Peak is another Utah power that’s seen impressive play from the offensive side of the football, a unit that’s currently averaging 41.5 points per game.

The Knights are looking to take the next step as a football program after winning eleven games a year ago. What isn’t getting any easier is the schedule ahead of the Knights, which includes an interstate tilt with national power Bishop Gorman (Nev.) on Sep. 5.

Having a player like quarterback Cruz Christensen playing the way he is behind center has certainly helped the offense play at a high level. Through two games, Christensen has completed 26-of-36 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns.

Lone Peak will have it’s work cut out for them, but early on, so far, so good for the Knights.

4. American Fork (2-0)

American Fork makes a jump of a couple spots in this week’s set of Top 25 Utah rankings after defeating Timpview, 48-25, last Friday night.

The Cavemen have platooned quarterbacks and it’s worked out just fine for them through the first two weeks between senior Kapono Manuela and junior Nate Childs. The pair have combined to throw for 407 yards and six touchdowns this season and could both be on pace to throw for over 1,000 when it’s all said and done.

The next couple of games, American Fork will be favored to win but the regular season slate gets tough starting Sep. 26 when they face Lone Peak (see above). That will start a stretch where the Cavemen will face Corner Canyon, Lehi and Skyridge.

5. Lehi Pioneers (1-1)

Lehi‘s loss to Mountain Ridge in a 9-7 defensive slugfest was a complete polar opposite of how they started the season with a 55-0 rout of Maple Mountain.

What to exactly make of this Pioneers’ group remains to be seen, but they round out the Top 5 in Utah after being held to one score.

Cash Hollingsworth has stepped in behind center, looking to replace quarterback Jett Niu of a year ago. Hollingsworth this season has thrown for 187 yards and two touchdowns, but will need to look for Oklahoma State tight end commit Bryton Niu more in the passing game if Lehi wants to remain among the state’s best.

Next up for Lehi is a home date against Kuna.
