The latest Virginia high school football top 25 rankings still feature Maury as the state’s best team, followed by Benedictine and Stone Bridge. Read through to check the other teams that made the list based on the latest Massey Ratings.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, the strength of their schedule, and the margin of victory.

1. Maury Commodores

The Commodores pulled off a gritty victory against Bishop McNamara. While Maury scored the first 14 points, the Mustangs stormed back and forced three overtime periods. Eventually, the top team in Virginia high school football sealed the deal with a field goal. The Commodores have won two straight games and will try to extend this current streak when they face Churchland on September 26.

2. Benedictine Cadets

The reigning VISAA Division I state champions have won six straight games, including three from this season. What’s more impressive is that they haven’t surrendered a single point in their first three victories this year. Benedictine’s 62 points against Blue Ridge increased their scoring average to 46 points per game. The Cadets can improve to 4-0 by defeating Georgetown Preparatory School on September 20.

3. Stone Bridge Bulldogs

After two low-scoring victories, the Bulldogs completed a 35-7 performance against John Champe. Meanwhile, this result puts Stone Bridge one win away from matching their win total from last season. The Bulldogs can get that tie by defeating Quince Orchard on September 19.

4. Oscar Smith Tigers

The Tigers earned their first win in the 2025 Virginia high school football season, beating Warwick 24-6. Oscar Smith, the defending Class 6 state champions, will target another victory against Indian River on September 20.

5. Dinwiddie Generals

The Generals are at 3-0 after a 28-21 victory over Highland Springs. Zion Boisseau had a splendid game, finishing with 297 passing yards, 68 rushing yards, and three touchdowns (two rushing). Kaevon Wiggins also had a strong outing with 172 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Dinwiddie defense generated 20 tackles for losses, two fumble recoveries, and a sack. The Generals can get to 4-0 by defeating Salem on September 19.

6. Riverbend Bears

The Bears have dominated their first three opponents, including a stunning 70-0 beatdown of King George. Riverbend left no doubt after scoring 41 first-quarter points. They have won eight of their last nine games, and they can add more wins, starting with their September 19 road game against Albemarle.

7. Colonial Forge Eagles

The Eagles remain undefeated after a 47-14 victory over Gainesville. Brock Brimhall carried Colonial Forge, as proven by his 195 passing yards, 46 rushing yards, and five touchdowns (three passing). The Eagles’ Virginia high school football continues as they host Oakton on September 19.

8. Varina Blue Devils

After a heartbreaking one-point loss to Maury, the Blue Devils responded with a 58-0 shutout of I.C. Norcom. Next on Varina’s plate is a September 19 road game against Hermitage.

9. Westfield Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have won three consecutive games, including their 24-6 outcome against Langley. Ryan Carlson threw for 157 passing yards and a touchdown, while PJ Sutherland ran for 50 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Malachi Lee caught all of Carlson’s eight passes. Westfield can improve to 4-0 with a win over Washington-Liberty on September 19.

10. Battlefield Bobcats
