After watching the film guy

i went back and am rewatching the game, man staleys head had to be somewhere else this game. not even bringing into account the dropped punt and the probably 35 yards of drops he had. brooks was right he missed two easy very key blocks that cost mike matthews a TD to open second half but also a huge run for bishop. just completely whiffed on them.

Mike Mathew’s missed a block on Star Thomas reception that would’ve been the easiest 60 yard touchdown down the sideline. He could’ve jogged in. For some reason, he kept watching after the reception and his guy ran right by him to make the tackle. Still a good gain but would’ve been huge. It’s the little things.

He also made one of the most crucial plays of the game. Nobody thought he was going to get that first down when he caught it. He refused to be denied and got it. When he did that all was forgiven for me

Tough game for him overall but this play made up for it in the end. Just all want to, very proud of him for that effort.

IMO this year our players seem to learn from their mistakes. Matthews and Staley both have had some great blocks so maybe they got their bad plays out of the way. Matthews may be one of the best blocking WRs that we have had in a while.

Yep it’s weird how many podcasts I heard this week that Mississippi state should have won that game. Maybe I’m biased but seems like a pretty casual take. most mentioned the two defensive TDs but I’d say those were more forced by TN than given away by Miss State. Both involved heavy pressure from the DL. Wasn’t like the QB just threw the ball directly at someone or a receiver dropped a pass. imo, the vols made WAY more self inflicted wounds - the muffed punt, 2 tipped interceptions, the wide open TD dropped. Plus you had the Hood ridiculous PI and Brazzell OPI. feels like if those two played again TN probably wins fairly easily, but hey that’s football and it’s why college football is crazy and playing on the road is hard. Just think it’s weird how many people acted like Miss State blew that game and that they way outplayed us

When you go back and watch, you realize we win at least 48-21 of we play nothing close to clean ball. State came to play, give em credit….

No one was sharp players or coaches. You could say it was the road stinker for the year. The difference is you over came it and found a way to win. All great teams have these games but no one remembers them because they find a way to win. That's why I was glad to see this team get that monkey off it's back. If you blow Miss st out it is just another road win. UT won a game when nobody had their best stuff that's what impressed me.

I don't know who needs to hear this but playing the game is actually pretty hard when you are on the field or court. It also looks easy on film or TV "what is this guy doing" type of thing. And I completely get it. But we have to remind ourselves that the game moves very very fast on the field. Split second decisions. Braylon didn't play how he wanted to do play. For sure. But the game is hard.

Saw it mentioned somewhere else, but Staley's dad played for Mississippi State in college.... feels like Braylon was pressing a bit in the first half and trying to "show" Dad's old team what they missed out on. Once he settled in the second half, he looked much more like himself

To be fair, they probably should've, but it goes to show how much talent discrepancy there is between the two teams. Tennessee had 2 TD's either dropped or taken back per refs which could've changed the game. They completely shot themselves in the foot constantly but won.

Silver lining Blocks are coachable and an effort thing
