All-Time Favorite Sports Moment?

What is your all-time favorite sport (core memory) moment as either a player, coach, fan, or spectator? I would have to say mine has been as a coach. In 2019, Omaha South's baseball team qualified for the Legion state tournament for the first time in 43 years. The first few years coaching there were unlike anything I could have imagined, so it was nice for everything to come full circle and pay off to some degree.

Kind of random, but Crouch's TD to beat Notre Dame in overtime in South Bend. That moment in particular made me really happy.

Kurt Gibson home run. Was just a casual spectator, but wow. That and the entirety of the most recent 3 NC games; 94, 95, and 97.

For NU: Probably Creighton in 2018. There’s a bunch of hoops ones, but man it felt good to finally get that monkey off the back. The entire 2023-2024 season was mostly fun too All Sports: Falcons 2016 NFCCG. Completely demolished the Packers en route to what should’ve been, and for a half was, a dominant Super Bowl performance Personally: There’s a few, first shot I ever made in a basketball game and playing in Memorial Stadium in the state championship game are probably my 2 favorites though

Seeing my son’s HS team win a state football championship and see him be on the field at memorial stadium. Back to back years, one loss one big win. It was cool for him to experience Seeing Nebraska win that championship against Miami on Tv Seeing the Henrey kick live and follow on Suh interception against CU. The single loudest moment I’ve ever been a part of. Watching my daughter work hard at her golf game to drop thirty strokes per round over two year to lead her team to state. A lot of early morning rounds during Covid with her and I walking watching my other daughter compete at state golf for 4 years

Having my dad introduce me as a 7 year old to his college track coach, Nebraska college football hall of famer Ed Wier, where Ed recognized and knew my dad by his first name. Watching Rick Apke of Creighton sink a 35 footer at the buzzer to beat Larry Bird and Indiana State for the illustrious Missouri Valley regular conference championship in the Civic Auditorium in March of 1978

The entirety of the Cubs 2016 World Series run? Specifically the Game 5 comeback in the 9th against the Giants to clinch the NLDS and then of course, the greatest game ever played was on a Wednesday in Cleveland.

November 11, 1978 #4 Nebraska versus #1 Oklahoma in Lincoln. with less than 2 minutes left and Oklahoma driving while losing 17 to 14, heisman trophy winner Billy Sims fumbles the rock on Nebraska‘s 5 yard line and none other than Governor Jim Pillen recovers. Good guys hang on to win. of course, Johnny Rodgers punt return in the Game of the Century Suh’s interception against Colorado.

This is an easy one... The most anticipated and watched Nebraska football game of all time. The 1971 Nebraska vs. Oklahoma game. These were by far and away the two best teams in college football. Both teams crushing every single opponent that they played. The anticipation for this game was like a 9 week build up, and boy did it deliver!

It was Andy Means that hit Sims that forced the fumble that Pillen recovered. Just to show you how hard of hitting that game was from beginning to end, Means hit Sims so hard he ended up swallowing his mouthpiece.

My favorite moment was when my dad took me to my first Major League Baseball game at Crosley Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He taught me how to keep a scorecard, ate all the things one would expect and he talked to me about the nuances of the game - and told me before the game started to watch Roberto Clemente. He was my dad’s favorite player. He said he hoped I could see his arm. Sure enough, in the 3rd inning the Reds had a player on first and Tommy Helms hits a line dive inside the first base line. The runner is going to third figuring he had it made. Clemente picks the ball up just inside the foul line delivers a line drive strike right on the 3rd base bag beating the runner by a foot. I will never forget that moment. Me and dad eating a dog, keeping score and watching what turned into the Big Red Machine play against one of the greatest players and humans of all time. Easily my favorite sports moment

Not really a Saints fan but Tracy Porter's interception off of Peyton Manning to seal the deal in the Super Bowl. What a fantastic play!
