Barnes needs to retire (and I'm Barnes fan)

He gets outcoached regularly now. Lineups, in-game coaching decisions (including use of timeouts), lack of in- game or halftime adjustments, etc. And yes, I completely understand that players don't always execute at a successful rate. Guess what... that's everywhere. On a separate but linked note: The Riverside Club was a bad addition. A lot of folks hangout in that area, even when there are important sequences in the game ongoing. Makes it more of a social event than a fan event and takes away from the home court advantage. It's a lot like the Transcard Premier Club effect at Neyland. It also appears that Linsey Nelson is headed in that same overall direction. Catering to the "upper-class" fans while the rank and file pay more "talent fees" etc. Not a negaVol and maybe I'm wrong, but the more people I talk to at games and around Knoxville agree with a lot of the above.

The RiverSide club is nothing more than a big wide open corridor on steroids and super jazzed up with concessions and cool murals…not sure what the fuss is all about?

People only blame stuff like that when things aren't going well, as if improving our facilities somehow negatively impacts performance on the court

The atmosphere in the arena wasn't that great last year even before the club was built.... this year it's bad because this team is an underachieving mess

I’m not blaming anything, I’m giving my opinion on the Riverside club…post had / had NOTHING to do with performance on the court

I was agreeing with you while trying to add some context 😂 The guy you were responding to was blaming the Riverside Club

Got it man…apologies…I’m just a tad bit (understated) frustrated with that loss we just took/gave away! That loss will come back to haunt us later in the season

Understandable... we all hate losing to Kentucky, especially in that fashion

After the season or whenever the AD decides, he has been a very good coach here. I think anyone that really watches his team can notice a lack of something that was obviously here with Admiral, Chaz, Ziegler and the like. I actually thought last years team helped coach Barnes and his staff look a bit better than they actually coached. Love him, but do not think he is what he was when he arrived several years ago. GBO

He’s the best coach in the history of the program and has presided over the best stretch of basketball we’ve ever had. Do we actually trust Danny White to get a better coach? When the time comes, he’s going to do exactly what he did with the Lady Vols. He will find a up-and-comer who runs a gimmick style No thanks. I will take Barnes for as long as he wants to coach. I’m not ready to go back to Buzz Ball or the other garbage eras in this program’s history.

He’s earned the right to go out on his own terms

... are you aware that the Lady Vols have looked much better the past 3 weeks than the men have?

Valid point about trusting Danny on the hire. Again, I love Coach Barnes but it sure seems like the writing is on the wall.

Soon Danny will have the entire arena and neyland as hospitality areas. Going well

Well said. Criticisms from fans that love the University and it's athletics are good when they're fair. And I believe that's a fair take.

It certainly feels that way at points. We had a momentum from 22-24 across Athletics that seems to have faded some.

They haven't played anybody either. We've played 3 of the 4 worst teams in the league in the first four games. The schedule is about to get much tougher. Let's see how they do against the better teams before we say they are that much better.

Fair enough lol. I know it’s the “worst teams in the league,” but they looked terrible earlier in the season against non conference opponents who are worse than those SEC bottom feeders. The fact that they are “getting right” against bad SEC teams is encouraging, but like you said the proof will come when they play the Texas’s, South Carolina’s, LSU’s, of the world.

I'd argue that the atmosphere has more to do with entitled fans (see OP for reference) who no longer have the same appreciation for how BAD things can get when you don't have a HOF coach. Just sad.

I don't think so. If everybody stays, he's going to have a really good team next season ... better than this one. We'll lose Gillespie, Ament and Okpara, but we will get Estrella, Phillips, Carey and Boswell back along with a freshmen class that I think is really good and could be the core of the next big run. Evans, Henderson and Brown look like really good finds. Say what you want, but Barnes is really good at identifying talent. He's brought in some really good players. Add a couple of key guys from the portal and this team will be set up for a good run next season.

They've been better of late, but I don't see them beating any of those three teams. We have let Mulkey, Staley and Schaeffer take over the conference.

Does the “who’s who” of Knoxville (whomever that is) hangout in the River Club at Thomson Boling I mean Food City Arena?
