Big Game Dan Lanning

Interesting to hear Urban Meyer's perspective here. I think this will be a game where we can see just how good of a coach Dan Lanning is. I already think he's a good coach, but we know you're defined by how you perform on the biggest stage, when it's the loudest and the lights are at their brightest. Very interested to see how Lanning and the coaching staff make adjustments when needed.

Score score score. Urban is correct, 3rd down is key for the Ducks. Get the lead and never ever take the foot off the gas!

100%. Regarding third down: keep moving the chains and get off the field when the opportunity presents itself.

He already proved that beating Ohio state last year, but I believe this is a good test to see how he handles both a good team AND hostile road environment last year we got past Wisconsin which is also difficult to win at, but they weren’t a good team and we barely scraped by, so we definitely need to show out much better this time Better examples though would be us blowing out Utah in 23 on the road, and Rice-Eccles is tough as all hell to win at

It’s weird people discount our Michigan win also. They weren’t a playoff team, but they were good enough to beat OSU

lAs I have read all these prognostigations i always think back to Oregon v. UMich 2007. Another noisy environment of over 100,000 hostile fans. And,in those days Michigan did not need gimmiks like "White Out".

That too, although the Big House has never been a tough place to play at

I took back to Tennessee 2010, Neyland is way more intimidating than the Big House

Dan has won big games before. We know that certain people will try to claim he’s never won a big game unless he wins the natty. The narrative around coaches not being able to win a big game is so stupid. Ryan Day was never going to win the big game after he lost to Michigan last year, Jim Harbaugh was never going to beat Ohio State in 2020, Kirby Smart was never going to win the big game after he keep losing to Alabama.

Dan has coached at an elite level against a top team in an equally hostile environment. The 23' Husky game caused seismic readings. I would say that's about as hostile as anywhere. A rivalry that is considered one of the more heated rivalries in college football. Hatred on both sides for sure That game was amazing. Yea, the Ducks lost, but was still a top 5 game all-time for me. Ducks players have played in a lot of high stakes, pressure packed games. All the pressure is on PSU. I hope Dan and the Ducks come in loose and play free. Everyone, including a lot of Duck media guys, are picking Penn State. Push all the chips in and let it ride

With all due respect to Penn State and the whiteout, based on some of the dialogue this week week you would think that Oregon and Lanning have never played a tough road game before. It’s starting to get a little ridiculous.

2023 at UW was and is a more hostile environment. You can’t get more hostile than your BITTER rivals with so much on the line. UW fans foam at the mouth (just as we do) when we come to their stadium. Penn State will be a great environment but Meyer forgets that UW team finished #2 overall.

No disrespect to urban but Lanning comes from the Saban tree. The mindset is different

With all due respect to UW and the rivalry game, a PSU whiteout will be more formidable. Husky Stadium has moments, Beaver Stadium will be 4 qtrs of chaos. I've been to games at both stadiums and there's a difference between over 100k fan all dressed in white at night and 70k fans in purple. Throw in the travel element and this will probably be the most challenging game for Oregon as far as away and hostile environments go in the Lanning era. If you're going to tomorrow's game, you'll understand. I'm a little concerned about tomorrow, given the environment, and how young the team is.

No question, I agree with every comment you made. What’s interesting though is I think PSU is only 11-8 in white out games.

True but I think they have also won 7 out of the last 8 or so. They have dominated recently.

There were only 1 or 2 ranked teams in those last 8 and all outside of the top 10

Yeah I think they said they kept putting the big games at big noon kickoff so they haven’t had a great white out opponent for a while. Could be wrong but I think that’s why they’re so excited about this one

Yep and their all time record against teams who were top 10 going into the whiteout is 2-5. It's a tough environment but despite that the good opposing teams still generally win.

What I'm looking for is timely adjustments if what the team is doing isn't working. That will be essential to us winning. Can't get down a couple of touchdowns before we figure it out.
