This is a genuine question. I am younger and was not old enough to follow the Billy Gillispie era.
I looked it up. Fired after 2 seasons going 40-27. First season made tournmanet and 2nd missed.
Pope will be 29-16 with a loss to Gonzaga. I know Matt said there was no chance he gets fired this season but like I am legitimately curious how bad does this season have to be for it to be considered?
Like this is LSU football going 2-10 as a comparison. If he has a worse record than Billy after 2 seasons can he get fired? Or is he legitimately untouchable?

Here's all I can tell you, we've trailed by 11 or more in 31% of the games Pope has coached. All you need to know. Injuries or not, that's not acceptable

Realistically, he’d have to be under .500 this year to get fired. If they miss the tournament he’ll go into next season on a very toasty seat.
Now, if he decides to lock someone in a bathroom stall, we can revisit this.

Honestly what makes it so bad is Billy did it an era with no real portal like we have today. You can build a Final Four team overnight in today’s era and we still stink

Mark Pope: not a drunk, not messing with coeds, just straight up bad coaching

People like Mark Pope, people despised Billy G. Really the only reason Pope will have a longer leash

Pope doesn’t do that and maybe that affords him another year, but if he can’t win 40 games in two seasons, that alone is a fireable offense at Kentucky. I’m really not sure if this team will win 12 games TOTAL.This is a genuine question. I am younger and was not old enough to follow the Billy Gillispie era. I looked it up. If he misses the tournament, he absolutely should get fired. I like Pope for what it's worth, but this is Kentucky basketball.
