Franklin would be an historic type hire for UNC, but considering how I think firing Belichick would be extremely stupid on our part after 1 season he is only a pipe dream. Scott Stricklin at Florida should have him on speed dial right now with brinks truck on standby.

I don’t really think he’s a great football coach — but our roster/talent level would be tremendous if he was here….no doubt he would dominate recruiting. I’m thinking it would be a slightly better version of Mack on the field with similar off the field results.

If I’m Bubba I call Franklin to see if he’d be interested in. If he says yes then you 💯 make the move. Alas it ain’t happening though.

Does Buck know something we don't know? 👀

Paying less for the HC and coaching staff makes a lot of sense if possible and if the money is spent on players. Re Franklin, paying out Billichick and paying the tab for Franlin is not in the cards. Not to mention the off the field issues associated with him.

If it’s not 100% a lock for Franklin, this coaching carousel this offseason isn’t one I’d want to hop on

Regarding Mack ..... his failure and that of Bubba's to accept and get behind NIL would have limited his ability to use the portal ...... IMO

I’ll start thinking about coaching candidates once we have a vacancy. That won’t be until after 2026 season at the earliest in my opinion.

Would be awesome if someone could inject some reality into the coaching discussions around here. Even if UNC fires Belichick tomorrow, we couldn't sniff Franklin.
Florida
Penn State
Auburn (likely open)
Wisconsin (likely open)
Arkansas
UCLA
Florida State (likely open)
All those jobs are clearly better than UNC. Every B1G/SEC school starts with an extra 20M/year from TV, doesn't matter what we are paying in coach salary. Then we are actually competing with
Va Tech
Stanford ($50M check just cut)
Oklahoma State
If we fire Belichick, we are not a Top 5 job this cycle. Wish people would live in the real world.

It still blows my mind that we seem so focused on HS recruits vs focusing more on the transfer portal. That is where all the big gains have happened for these other successful teams. Take proven work vs potential work. I get working both recruiting pools but they need to be hyper focused on transfers. If not, we will have a repeat next year. IMHO.

BenSherman said:“ As for UNC’s situation, it is doubtful at best whether it will part company with Bill Belichick this year, even if UNC goes winless the rest of the way. Having arrived at the conclusion that this was a wise move, they appear unwilling to revisit it amid year one, whatever the pros and cons of it are, or that is my admittedly limited view of it. Currently, however, no one imminently involved in those decisions has even hinted at anything to the contrary.” It is what it is.

James Franklin would be a HR hire at UNC....

One reason for UNC’s better transfer haul is that, when kids transfer, they are looking to play - and soon. Playing at UNC seems more likely than playing at PSU.

We already have the biggest hire in INC football history. Bad choice for an article Buck.

1- as pitiful as we are I’m just glad Mack the car salesman is gone. Got so tired of his excuses. Has to be the one of most overrated coach of all time. Personally I liked how Fedora ran things. Passion , intense ….no bullshit. Just couldn’t get the D right and his run just ended. They all do. Next up get some young guy with fire and passion. No more old fucks !!

Love the discussion but unfortunately it's not happening with us. Hope BB figures it out.

We really have no clue what is going to happen at the end of the season. I don't see us firing Belichick, but it would not surprise me to see him announce that he was retiring. We really have no clue what was discussed behind closed doors about two weeks a go.

Someone is going to hire Franklin. They're going to recruit pretty well (a little better than their historical norm).
Then they're not going to win the number of games they think they will. And they're going to scratch their heads as to why.

Read an article today saying VT should go all in for him. I would not want to see him there.
