So, it's a five guy race. Wait our Elko and KDB as long a possible, and then hope to snag one of Drink, Key, or Lea if the top two don't work out.
My big Q right now: does Kraft have a deadline for this? So curious how he is thinking about the calendar aspect.

At the coordinator level, Ohio State’s Brian Hartline has enthusiastic endorsements from key voices in the college football world. Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm has also been a much-discussed possibility externally. Neither has drawn much interest from Penn State – at this point – beyond due diligence.

I don't understand why Brohm hasn't "drawn much interest from Penn State".

Also surprised that nobody currently in the NFL was mentioned. Monken and Daboll if he gets fired make a ton of sense to me.I don't understand why Brohm hasn't "drawn much interest from Penn State".

If that's true, and we can land Elko or KDB, then guys will be eager to go play for a big name in a big school. Kiss c/o '26 goodbye, and portal hunt the heck out of it.So, it's a five guy race. Just maybe KDB and Elko can face off in a round 1 playoff game where we can poach the loser.

With LSU in a tailspin and A&M currently undefeated I do not put much stock at all in either Elko in Deboer being reality. Maybe if Bama drops one of these of which they are heavily favored is the best chance.

We keep seeing Freeman’s name brought up and i keep casting it aside like there’s zero chance. Seems bizarre to me he would be interested in leaving ND.
Does PSU have better resources that would make him want to make that jump? Maybe just a bigger check?

This feels like they're listening but to the extent of waiting to see how their extensions unfold.

ColorBlind said:So some differences with the buzzworthy article: A) I find it interesting that it was relayed to me that Brohm hasn't shown us much interest (Point #5 above) vs PSU not showing Brohm much interest. I have no reason not to defer to Nate here, and I guess the overall theme is that there is a lack of interest between the two parties. B) Nate mentions Brian Hartline after the same top 5 as above, where I am told Kraft would still pursue Diaz/Campbell/Rhule over Hartline. In fact, Nate does not mention those 3 in the article. @NateBauer , do you have indications that Hartline has moved up the board past those 3?Good morning, I hope everyone had a good weekend and that we've moved past the game we lost by 24 points as a 21 point underdog (shrugs). Here are some general coaching search trends that should become more apparent throughout the next week or two: #1 Once the regular season ends on Nov 29 the search becomes a heck of a lot clearer. All interested parties are freed up to lay their true cards on the table. #2 Search will continue past (and perhaps well past) the first week of December as long as Elko and Deboer still have their names in the hat. #3 There is an acknowledgement the above decision, if we go that route, will result in some terrific candidates moving on, namely Eli Drinkwitz. We have to treat Drinkwitz as a big swing candidate himself. Drinkwitz also has the potential to play Florida and Penn State against each other depending on how much interest Florida shows in him. #4 Key and Lea are likely to secure extensions that satisfy them to keep them at their places #5 Brohm has not shown us much interest, it does not appear there is any reason to expect this to get off the ground. #6 We'd likely hire Diaz or circle back to Rhule before going the OC route. #7 I am, once again, stating that Elko is more attainable than most believe. I was told that if Elko was a free agent choosing between Texas A&M and Penn State he'd choose Penn State, but unfortunately the circumstances of him being the current head coach at A&M do muddy the waters a bit, let alone the potential deep playoff run. *********************************************************************************************************************** So at this point I will give my OPINION (not facts, just on how I personally see it currently) Three scenarios that I see potentially playing out: A) We succeed in waiting out Elko's playoff run and hire him, regardless of timing, but really hoping their season is wrapped up Jan 1. He is the big swing candidate we have the best shot at. Deboer, for now, is keeping us warm in case things go south (heh) with Alabama, but that is growing less likely as the season goes on. Freeman is a longshot and Kiffin isn't really worth mentioning anymore. B) The Gap between Drinkwitz and other candidates in the pecking order is deemed too wide to risk losing out on him. Our offer is either a) better than Florida's or b) Florida focuses elsewhere) and we hire Drinkwitz 1st or 2nd week of December C) We wait out Elko but either a) the circumstances lead him to stay or b) We decide we do need to adjust our timing and get a coach in prior to Jan 1. We lose out on Drinkwitz with our decision to pursue Elko, and we introduce Manny Diaz as our new head coach, timing TBD. ************************************************************************************************************************** As always, please read @NateBauer and @Sean Fitz stuff, as they give you the information without the speculation.

Clark Lea is the name that fits best. His GM, Barton Simmons, might be the best in the game right now. Sign me the fuck up for that tandem. What they’ve done at Vanderbilt is incredible.

One interesting note in the "At The Dance" portion: "It’s also where the Nittany Lions have established lines of communication and mutual interest in the position"
Is the exclusive or inclusive of "Objects of Affection" tier? Asked more bluntly, have any of the Objects of Affection meaningfully reciprocated (noting the caveat that "the Nittany Lions have not been deterred from keeping the door open on those possibilities and exploring their depth", of course)?
Thanks for checking out this free message board preview.
