The Raiders just fired Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator. As most you know, he won the National Championship last year as OC at Ohio State.
And he runs a spread offense with pro style concepts built in.

South Carolina Fans: We need to stop hiring washed up coaches. Same South Carolina Fans: Coach Kelly just got fired. We should hire him if we want to win.

Honestly, NFL and college are different. Spurrier didn't do so well in NFL either but we know he was one hell of a college coach. I think Shane Beamer is creaming his pants at this headline with Chip Kelly's NFL experience and college resume. If we somehow brought in Chip Kelly as our OC, it'd be a massive grand slam hire.

Chip Kelly: Won National Championship one season ago as OC. RileyCock: he's washed up

He would be a phenomenal hire at OC. I strongly believe our program won’t seriously consider it.

That’s a different type of hire than Satt, Loggains, or Shula. You gotta make that call if you’re in the market for an OC, although it doesn’t excite me as much as some other names.

Man I bet Alabama fans are glad that got Nick ”washed up” Saban from the Dolphins. Just because the NFL does not work does not mean college will not. LIke others have said he won a natty as an OC just 10 months ago.

Yeah. I would take Kelly in a heartbeat as an OC. As was mentioned, he is a proven elite college OC. Instant national headlines and recruiting buzz. 1000%

Definitely would not put him in the same category as Satt, DL or Shula just because he's most recently been in the NFL.

Washed up? Hardly—‘out of our league’ fits much better.

He didn’t get the Florida job in ‘18, maybe he’ll try again.

The question would be how long could we keep him? I say that because hiring coordinators every two years is almost as bad as hiring bad coordinators. I honestly forgot he left OSU for Vegas.

He learned that he's not an NFL coach. He is a terrific college coach.

With as many HC positions open, don't be surprised if he gets some HC offers. He was outstanding as HC at Oregon, taking them to the Natty game. He wasn't so good at UCLA but he has HC experience and won't command an outrageous salary perhaps

Oregon, UCLA, Columbus, Ohio. Doesn't seem like a southern guy but who knows?

He quit being a head coach to be the OC at OSU. He hates the new model of college football, so I would be very surprised if he takes a HC spot. I would be shocked if Beamer doesn't kick the tires on this one.

I'd love to see us take a shot at hiring Coach Kelly.

If he was hired there would still be a multitude of posters on here complaining and calling for Beamer to be fired. Before he could call the 1st play, which ironically would be a run up the middle.

Saban had to hire coordinators every couple of years because he hired really good coordinators and he knew they would get opportunities as HC. That didn't keep him from hiring them because he knew he needed the best person for the job for the moment. We need to have the same mentality. Beamer doesn't have the luxury of playing it safe because the person might leave after 1-2 seasons.

He doesn’t like to recruit.
