He’s LOVING the feeling of wins in this tough conference. He thrives in ranked high pressure games.

He doesn’t have to worry about player buy in or retention anymore. This is HIS team.

He’s evolving for sure. It’s his team. That FSU performance brought everyone together. Winning a top 5 road game, a top 15 game, then a top 15 road game in three weeks is absolutely incredible.

Also think there is something to being even further removed in time from the Saban retirement. The question is (slowly but surely) becoming less “is DeBoer living up to the Saban standard” and more “how is DeBoer stacking up against his peers.” Relatedly, fans are more cognizant of (1) greater parity in the sport and (2) the expanded playoff. Like, you can tell many on here are expecting at least a loss or two and aren’t about to dive headfirst off a cliff. And now the Vandy loss last year seems more understandable given the context. EDIT: Basically saying he doesn’t have to be so hesitant or defensive in public.

I have theorized perhaps it's this ... if there is a bit of a difference in his personality/persona: He won so big in his first 'big' job, at Sioux Falls, if there was any criticism on Sioux FallsOnLine, it was minimal or silly. Things just went really well for him, virtually all of the time. He moves up to FBS football and he's an OC now ... and it must go pretty well for him. Because he just kept on being promoted. He gets to be Indiana OC and they hadn't ever been better (until now) ... but the point is ... who was criticizing him loudly up to this point? Anyone? Anyone? Buehler? So he becomes the HC at Fresno .. and wins. Immediately. So much so he gets promoted, again. He becomes HC at Washington and inherited a mess. Big time mess. He wins, immediately. Then wins bigger than they have since 1991. Again, no criticism. How could there be? So he gets to Alabama and inherits the Ferrari that Saban has built. Does he win? Well, yeah, but not like Saban. Here comes the criticism. And it's loud. His first season results are "unacceptable" per many. Understandably. Then, game one in year 2, you hit a new low. Now there are literal "hot boards". You read "it's not working". You read he is going to get fired. There was a very loud piece written by Chris Low that week. At that point in his life, it really felt like the first time EVER people were saying he stinks, he can't get it done. It's not working. That may have changed him. For the better? Probably. May have lit a fire he needed. Maybe. Just saying .. up until Week 2 of 2025, his career had been nothing but UP, UP, UP, UP, UP, UP and then ... Alabama. Then 9-4. Then the FSU loss. It may have changed him.

It’s also possible that this is who he has always been and the fanbase judged too quickly and too harshly.

Man that is great commentary Jimmy. You don’t really know the character of somebody until they are punched or down, and how they respond is what defines them ultimately. You can cower, blame others, make excuses OR you own it and get better because of it. I think we all know what happened in this instance, and while it’s still a work in process he’s not done any or those things before the OR above.

they ain't scared to make the right calls at the right times. some of them way ballsier than what I would do in those situations this staff, starting with KDB, trusts these players to make plays. trusts the 2nd unit players to get it done in real crunch time, and most def trust their own skills as coaches. a cycle of trust is being built I remember some of the plays they dialed up against Oregon, twice, in 2023 and thought, these dudes are playing to kill. Same in the Texas game. They won with aggression, not waiting on time to expire as stated psychos. RMFT
