Wow, a free kitchen appliance if you win the game. Added incentive. I would have gone for the chocolate pop tarts. Fruit ones are good too.

Lol. Wow. Great post and take. This greatly confirms my stance in support of the team protesting a bowl appearance, if I was ever in doubt. I mean some of these bowls are supposed to be fun, light-hearted, but that is pretty over-the-top gimmicky. As an aside, that would be kind of a cool appliance though. And I'm a cinnamon brown sugar guy myself.

If you're not competing for a title the bowls should be absolute lunacy like this. There is nothing dignified about a non CFP bowl game anymore. Make these things loud and dumb, because dumb is exactly what they are. I love how we played this whole thing, and I'm glad we didn't go to this bowl, because I believe long-term that this was the right statement to make, but this is a helluva lot better than getting a bucket of mayo (albeit the best mayo on the planet) dumped on your head in the Duke's Mayo Bowl. These are exhibitions anymore with up to a quarter of any given team opting out of the games, so let's have some fun man. As I stated when we were staring down the barrel of this one, of all the bowl games, the Pop Tarts Bowl is objectively the most fun and they do the best with it ... and they have a ritualistic sacrifice of one or more Pop Tarts at the end of the game ... no other bowl game offers that level of insanity. I'm cool if we went back to a commodity based bowl naming system - but then you lose the sponsors.

Also, can someone do a hypothetical AI-version of this with Brian Kelly? Just for sh*** and giggles?

Thank god we didn’t subject him to this. He’d probably be ready to leave for the NFL if he had to go through this shaming ritual.
Shaming ritual… it’s a dumb thing but don’t make it more then it is.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck. I would be embarassed if I had to watch Freeman stick a poptart into a toaster trophy and eat it to promote a game for ESPN. This is 100% beneath him.

Come on people - this is funny. It's not quite like drinking from the Stanley Cup, but it makes me crave a mid-morning Pop-Tart.

It’s stupid indeed but there would be nothing wrong with Marcus throwing a poptart into a fancy toaster. Also nothing wrong with playing in the bowl game if you hadn’t just been f*cked over by the CFP committee.

I would think the goal would be to make this a more attractive opportunity…..

Take things as seriously as you want to but this is just a dumb thing the bowls do to make it unique or more fun. The idea behind it isn’t to shame or humiliate anyone

They are playing for a poptart toaster trophy and the right to ritually sacrafice a poptart mascot. The whole thing is a joke and imo its beneath Freeman and Notre Dame. I have no problem with these bowls being big jokes but dont ask serious coaches and serious programs like ND and Freeman to particpate in it if you want to make the entire thing a joke.

Lighten up Francis! Coaches are allowed to have fun and who doesn't like a freshly toasted Pop-Tart?

Could you honestly say you could see Freeman doing this? From what we know about Freeman as a coach and a person he would despise all the BS surrounding this bowl game and I cant say I would blame him. Freeman destroyed PSU and Franklin in less than a year over a joke about his hairline, you think he is shoving a poptart into a toaster trophy???

Yes!! Thank you, sir. Made my morning! The look on his hypothetical face, too, is priceless. Pissed, but still wants to win his pop-tart coming out first...

He looked like he really didn't want to be at the Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl and I imagine the Pop-Tarts Bowl would have evoked a similar feeling for him.

There is a thousand miles of distance between the seriousness of a CFP semi-final game and a non-consequential Bowl game. The two are not comparable. Yes, I could see Coach Freeman engaging in the pre-game festivities and in this particular Bowl game, that would include putting a Pop-Tart in a football shaped toaster.
