NO AD will admit someone as a candidate who didn’t ultimately get the job especially if they were ahead of the one who actually took the job. that said, not a doubt in my mind Rhule was a serious contender until we s*** the bed at Minnesota. He needed to save face, he was striking out left and right, the job is not as much of a slam dunk as everyone anticipated it would be. Honestly, what has PSU done the last 30 plus years? I'm sure it took him 54 days to negotiate an agreement with Matt Campbell! Matt Rhule was very likely a candidate as well as 7 or 8 other guys who told him they were not interested because their universities locked them down. Pretty ridiculous to now claim that they were never candidates. I'm sure it was his plan all along to replace a coach that had been to the playoffs the previous year with one that has a career 107-70 record.

Ding ding ding! Mandel is a moron, and for some reason always tries to get digs in on Nebraska. I read the Drusso story and to tweet out that as his takeaway is quite the stretch. That’s not what was said in the story. And to the OP, Dannen handled the extension very well and from a position of equal or more leverage. If he was desperate, Rhule would have gotten a big raise, which he didn’t. To try painting this as Dannen getting fleeced shows you have some bias against him, just like Mandel does against Nebraska

Yeah, BS. He was probably the first call for a feeler. No coach is a serious candidate until an offer is made.

Especially considering the "bombshell" referenced in dickweed's tweet is: "But among sources familiar with the search and the people involved, Rhule’s candidacy never took off. Sounds more like he not a "serious" candidate because he didn't want the job from the jump.
