Franklin entering the tunnel

Was just sent this FB reel of Franklin entering the tunnel after the game, and all I can say is that this is f**cking embarrassing. The fact that Franklin has to send his daughters (or his daughter and wife, can't really tell who the second person is) ahead of him by 20 feet so they're not with him for the "Fire Franklin" and "Fuck James Franklin" chants is embarrassing. If I was Franklin I would be on the phone negotiating a lower buyout beucase fu** this fanbase. I'm not saying he's a great coach and I'm not saying he should stay. At this point he needs to go for both sides, but for this many people to stay after the game and yell that is embarrassing. I get it's a different world than 20 years ago and everything involving CFB has changed, but this. is. fu**ing. embarrassing. And what coach is going to see this and be like "Now that's a school I want to go to!" We went through god awful years of Paterno putting teams on the field that we expected to end the season at a 4-8 or 3-9 record. And this never happened. And PSU fans always pride themselves on being classy and better than other fan bases. Well that's done. I hope we part ways with Franklin and enter a purgatory of 6-6 years because that's what we deserve to bring people back down to earth and understand the landscape of college football right now and our actual place in it.

Not gonna dig up the clip, but a week or two ago Urban essentially called our fanbase soft for wishing him well as he left the whiteout. Said that we don’t aggressively demand success the same way OSU/Michigan do. We’re happy to have a nice tailgate with our friends and watch a game. Fans shouting down unacceptable coaching performances is a step in the winning direction.

Maybe Franklin shouldn’t be having his family join him on the field after the game at this point in time. That would be the more prudent way to approach this

Not that it is good to yell foul language at him but pay me 9 million a year you can call me anythjng you like . when we were kids we played the “what would you do for a million dollars” game. Coaching psu wasn’t one of them. 🤣

Maybe I just don't get it. I think today was a shit performance and this season is hot trash, but I'm not staying after a game to scream at the coach and try to embarrass him. Like the results speak for themselves. Boo from the stands but to force an echo chamber like that onto another person who obviously wants to win is just shitty fan behavior IMO.

I get the fans' frustration who are booing and chanting shit, I really do. But it's a bit disappointing to me at the same time. I just think it poisons whatever culture still exists here around our athletics programs, and maybe that's just bound to happen with the way the world is going and with these sports becoming more like professionals now. But I wish our fanbase didn't do it; there are other ways to express your displeasure with the state of the program or the product on the field. Just looks/sounds trashy as hell.

Pretty sure Ryan Day got death threats last year and I don’t think OSU would have any trouble finding a replacement for him if they ever needed to so….

He knew what would happen if they lost, he put her in that position hoping to quell the mob. It didn't work.

You're right, he did. And you're right, people would jump at that job. I've just never seen it like that here and maybe it's my thought that we all take this a bit too seriously.

So your belief is that James Franklin is putting his daughter in situations where people will scream at her so he doesn't get screamed at?

What kind of charmin soft post is this. Jimmy got everything his heart desired. He finally got “alignment”. It was the most complete roster and staff during his time here. If some “big wigs” or drunks in the tunnel yelling for his job upsets you, maybe you should root for tee ball where they hand out participation trophies.

Are you really surprised by this? It's been happening for a while now. I'm surprised he didn't start arguing with the student section like he's done multiple times

Yes. Hard to refute at this point. Kinda like Elon

My belief is that he knew the fans would be full of vitriol and want his head on a spike. He knowingly put his daughter in that situation. So he either hoped the fans seeing him as a "family man" would keep them in line (don't say mean words in front of his daughter) or he just didn't care. Either way, shame on him

The tunnel is in the middle of the drunk and irrational student section. I'm just glad a barrage of beer cans didn't rain down on him. You can't get paid $8.5M per year, claim it's your best team ever, and lose outright as 20+ point favorites in back to back weeks without expecting some backlash. Vitriol hatred and cussing out his family is insane and pathetic but that was seemingly a product of the moron students. In the tunnel they were just booing which is absolutely justified.

It’s the students at the tunnel. Like the players, the students in the student section “are just kids”. So they get a pass and can’t be yelled at or condemned by anyone on this board .🤣 heck it was only 500 students left In the building. 15k showed which is half and then 7k left after halftime then 3500 left to start the 4th And so on.

An obvious counterpoint here is that I don’t bring my kids to work.

It hasn’t been that bad that I know of. I don’t think he’s received death threats and I certainly hope he hasn’t. Booing and calling for someone’s firing isn’t that big of a deal, especially with how much money is involved in collegiate sports now and also how money season ticket holders have to spend every year.

Saw a guy, probably mid-50s, relentlessly screaming obscenities at Franklin from the first row of the stands behind the bench as Northwestern ran the clock out. Did not let up. (Actual) cop said OK, that's enough, go down the tunnel and on your way. The guy hit him with a "**** you too!" So he's now having an even worse night, if the multiple officers hopping into the stands and running down the tunnel in pursuit were any indication.

I really hate what this world has become.
