For the record, I've known him 20+ years. Always been a good dude and a close friend. Glad to be working with him again. He just wants to be right and wanted to make clear you knew at this stage he is speculating. Which is what pretty much everyone is doing. Moore was only fired hours ago.
Here is what he told me (and suggested I post for you guys/ gals).
From the Michigan end.
1. He does not think Michigan is close to hiring anyone.
2. He does not think Michigan is close to offering anyone.
3. He does think there are more candidates than just one. UM will have a process with multiple guys. Many with UM connections.
4. He does think Kalen DeBoer was interested in the UM job when they promoted Sherrone Moore, which would make sense. To be clear, when he was at Washington.
5. He does think DeBoer would at least listen to Michigan if he was offered the job. I wouldn't disagree.
6. He is not saying DeBoer would for sure come if he were offered. Just that he would listen.
7. This whole situation is in the infant stages. UM tends to move at its own pace. Methodical, one might say. Everything is happening fast.
