He'll somehow still be proud of this effort.

I think his chances for getting SEC Coach of the Year honors are not looking good.

Beamer has done worse in this department. While trying to keep in mind all the information available at the times of the hires; Muschamp did a better job attempting to higher proven coordinators. He also fired them when they didn’t work, something Beamer has yet to show he’s willing to do. Bobo who technically may have been Beamer’s best OC was not someone he had to go get, he was retained. He then hired 2 guys in a row who had been OC’s but no one was trying to hire them for that role presently. Satterfield especially, hadn’t been one in 5 seasons. And Beamer can be given some slack for initially hiring him since Bobo departed unexpectedly. He needed someone quickly. However Satt wasn’t released when it was clear he sucked nor was Loggains. Beamer got bailed out that someone else hired these duds away. And then in order to not out do Himself Beamer found a guy with the largest OC resume gap yet in his hires. I am not sure yet Shula is the complete problem. Have some other thoughts on that, probably to post elsewhere.

Admittedly I have not been able to see much of the first two games, and last night I didn’t pay much attention after the 2nd cause you could tell what was coming. So saying beforehand there is much I haven’t seen and there is plenty of room for others to correct & enlighten me here. But what I have seen strikes me more so as poor execution vs poor play calling. For several years I have been baffled by play calling - throw beyond the sticks on 1st for an incompletion, run up the middle on 2nd for maybe 2 yards. Screen pass on 3rd - seems to summarize the approach since Muschamp. And while the OL has been generally bad through all of that it seems worse now. Back to getting no push in short yardage, always some defender in the backfield. It seems the play selection has been decent but execution is absent much of the time - largely due to the OL. IE on the first drive of the season, first drive last night. Straight forward plays and it works. But I also recall two drops on the second drive of the season that killed that drive and there was finally an effort in the first two drives to utilize the TE with frequency, middle of the field, short easy throws and picking up a few yards after. The biggest difference I have seen so far this season from last is Sellers staying in the pocket longer. If that is his intention to develop as a passer- great -but he needs to trust himself and run because he has no time. Now, if that is a Shula implementation then fire him yesterday. You don’t limit your best weapon like that.

Beamer was a cheap and lazy hire, and now we are having to endure the lackadaisical effort to hire a "I guess he'll do, and our fans can acquiesce them selves by stating "well I hope he does well, so I have no other choice but to support him" "We get what we tolerate"

He will give all the same talking points. We know we can play better. We’re capable of better. It starts with me. Coaching, playing, execution, we all have to do better. Blah blah blah.

What infuriates me is the lack of half time adjustments, and changing the scheme based on our teams strengths. They always have a solid first scripted drive, then everything goes to crap. We lack the ability to adjust and change on the fly. If we see something working we abandon what works. I don't understand during half time, with knowledge of LaNorris not returning, looking at things and say hey Doty has specific skill sets, and our game plan we had with LaNorris needs to be tossed out the window. When our O-Line is looking like Swiss-cheese add a FB in the backfield to assist in blocking capabilities. If we are getting gashed in the run game, adjust and adapt. I was very surprised by the lack of touches by Adaway during the Vandy game.

Beamer isn't embarrassed at all. He's laughing all the way to the bank. His pay is quadruple what it was when he was hired based on beating Clemson twice. There was and still is no danger of any program hiring him away yet we keep throwing huge sums of money at him.

We don't have the freakin talent, period, we have a few outstanding players and even they are a work in progress. We have a very subpar OL, the secondary did not look good and the DL didn't either. We have major issues in many areas, but everybody jumping off the cliff and acting shocked needs to look in the mirror, why wouldn't you have seen this coming, what in the offseason happened to make you believe we would improve this year? Easy to blame coaches, but it is the talent that is missing, again, if your recruiting class is ranked 10th and below in the SEC every year, you are not gonna consistently win and move up in the SEC, Vandy is having a good year but who thinks they will continue that for long? It has always been difficult to recruit at USC, many reasons imo, but unlike many that welcomed NIL and the portal, it has and will continue to hurt our chances of ever being competitive in ehe SEC.

That's ridiculous, of course he is embarrassed. But like I posted elsewhere, until somebody donates $500 million a year, or whatever, to NIL we will remain in the middle of the pac or lower tier of the SEC. We don't have the talent and the NIL/portal will continue to hurt USC.

I think a lot of people saw this coming. We lost WAY too much talent on the defensive side of the ball, and thats what carried us last year, imo. The outstanding players being a work on progress was brought up a bit, but jumped on by many. "He needs to improve" has become a punchline of a joke. The people really stressing are the ones that thought last year was somehow the new normal.

Well, we heard for the last few years about how great recruiting was going and how much talent we were bringing in from the portal and how this was going to be a special season where we made the playoff. It could still happen but I don't think it is likely. NIL isn't what is holding SC back. We are ranked 18th in NIL money (Clemson is 17th), not exactly pauper status.

Last year, we also benefitted from OK, aTm and Missouri being down. Take away those 3 wins and we are 6-6, which is pretty close to our "normal". Those teams and Vandy are all much better this season so some reversion to the mean may be in store. The Clemson game may decide if we are bowl eligible.

I seriously see 3 wins. Maybe somehow we beat UK for the 4th. The OL just isn't getting better under Teasley and Shula.

You screwed up here with your flaming, Botman. The "reversion to the mean" meme was Lonesome Rooster's line. Get more sleep. You need to be at the top of your game to manage all of those troll accounts. :)

It's never as bad as it seems though. We could beat UK, and that other patsy, and Clemson looks like crap so far. That's 5 wins, and one freak upset away from a bowl.

I will be going to the UK game (always go to one a year). Knowing what I know, I'd be better off watching that game on my big screen TV.
