Interesting Arkansas conversation

Went to the MNF game in Las Vegas. Sat in a box with a bunch of friends. One of the guys in the box is a really big booster at U. of Arkansas. Mentioned that I was a supporter of SMU and he immediately stated that he loved Lashlee. He said the Arkansas boosters were wearing thin on Pittman and he would be surprised if he was there next year. He said Lashlee would be very high on the Arkansas list. Told him I think Lashlee is very happy at SMU and he laughed and said "we will certainly be finding out. You do know he is from Arkansas and played for us." Something to follow although we all kind of knew this already. Thought it was interesting.

A little worried about the Florida job as well. Considering his recruiting success in the state of Florida gotta think he's high on their list too.

We've covered this several times but taking the Arkansas job is career suicide in the new SEC. They don't have the money or resources to compete in that league. RL and his agent certainly know this. They are building (or maybe its done now) a huge home in the Park Cities. They have four young kids who are living in the most desirable zip code in Texas. Rhett makes great money and if we continue to win he will be set to make even more. Florida? Now that one might be intriguing but with how bad the situation is there now its gonna be a slog to rebuild it.

They moved into a new home this offseason. They are building a big lake house on Possum Kingdom. Thomas is the QB at Covenant. Not saying Rhett will never leave, but I don’t think people realize how much the situation even outside of SMU is exactly what they want at this phase in their life. He is also getting paid a huge amount of money.

I agree with you. This guy was pretty confident though and he's very, very wealthy. Surprised me a little for sure.

Very wealthy people tend to have a lot of confidence. I'm sure they'll make a run at Rhett if they decide to move on from Pittman. But that place is a coaches graveyard and Rhett is still in his early 40's. His situation at SMU is about as perfect as you could imagine from a compensation, quality of life, and job security perspective. No reason to cash all that in just to be 13-16 in the SEC every year and inevitably fired.

In my limited experience, very very wealthy guys are always confident they can get what they want, until they dont.

So you're telling me he's too comfortable and his life distractions are impacting his coaching performance? Possum Kingdom is out toward TCU btw!

He's got a GMC pickup. Could collect his trash and drop it off on tcwho campus when he heads to the lake house.

Personally, I do not se Rhett going to Arkansas. What does worry me is negative recruiting with our competition telling recruits that RL will most likely go to Arkansas when it opens up. The sooner Arkie names Petrino as the new HC the better
